Hello all, Musically speaking i have had a great week, Some of you may know about this but most will not but around 19 years ago when we lived in the midlands i went for a audition as i often did and i was contacted by a record company called San Remo records asking me if i would like to audition for a up and coming artist called Scott Matthews, they sent me the tracks to learn and whilst it wouldn't have been my choice of music to play there was something about it that i really liked and would learn to love, So i went for the audition and me and Scott clicked instantly anyway long story short a few days later i was called by Scotts management and i was told i had got the gig.
Now at this point his critically acclaimed debut album passing stranger was already recorded but Scott was getting ready to tour it with a band, so anyway we started rehearsing the album and it was going well then literally everything changed he was scouted by a A&R man from Island records and they wanted to sign Scott and of course they did, and that was the end for me unfortunately it was a brief moment in time but also a great time and we kept in touch after that. Needless to say within a very short time of being signed to the major i saw him on Jools Holland performing the tracks from the album, i was really happy for him but also gutted that i never got to experience it with him.
Fast forward 19 years i see Scott had a gig at Poole Lighthouse so i mentioned to him i would be coming and he said would i like to jump on for Sweet scented figure a song we had rehearsed all those years ago, i was reluctant because i donβt class myself as a Djembe percussionist I am a Drummer, and I was on kit with Scott originally, but when we got to the venue we sat down and the show started i still hadn't seen scott at this point, anyway a few songs in and and he says is Joff in ? i said yeah and he says up you come lol the video below is one of 4 tracks i played with him last night he wouldn't let me sit down, but i have to say it was a really special night and i always knew our paths would cross again one day, ok it wasn't Jools holland but it might of well have been it was out of this world and the crowd were amazing!
You probably would have heard Scotts music over the years and not known who it was, but what this guy has achieved is remarkable i urge you to check him out if you are at all interested.
