It's really important to have a couple of hours off the farm every so often.

Learning from, and connecting with others is vital for both personal well-being and business success.

Farming can be isolating, and stepping away helps you see new ideas, learn better practices, and gain fresh motivation.

Hearing how others have the same challenges reminds you that you’re not alone, and seeing how everyone handles things differently often offers solutions you can bring home too.

It was great to have the chance to nip down the road to see Cheryl and Andrew at Agri-cation and hear how their commercial farming business is helping young people learn and communicate outside the mainstream educational setting.

Gwen from Vale Vineyard - Gwinllan y Dyffryn gave a really inspiring overview of their wine making journey, discussing the highs and lows of venturing into unknown territory.

And finally, Bernie from Pwrpas told of the importance of simply talking and the strength it takes to ask for help. You are not alone.

All in all, a fab couple of hours made possible by the lovely Gwenno at Farming Connect who is always available to source advice and contacts.

Investing time to learn and share strengthens both us and the business.

As the weather starts to turn and the first frosts arrive, its time to think about protecting the delicate plants and feeding the soil.

We have a few left..... 🌱

Did you know wool makes an excellent mulch?

If you’re looking for a natural way to improve your garden, here are some reasons to give pure wool a try:

🌿 W**d control – acts as a barrier, reducing unwanted growth.

πŸ’§ Moisture retention – holds water in the soil, meaning less frequent watering.

🌑️ Temperature regulation – keeps soil cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

πŸ› Soil health – breaks down slowly, releasing nitrogen and other nutrients.

🌍 Eco-friendly – 100% natural, renewable, and biodegradable.

πŸ₯• Perfect for veg patches, potted plants or flower beds πŸͺ΄

We have a limited supply from this years shear
Β£4 per fleece or 3 for Β£10

Ready to use in your garden.....as it's sheared, straight from the sheep so may contain organic matter such as grass or poo (bonus!)

🌽 Why we grow maize for our cattle πŸ‚

Out checking the crop today β€” this is maize (a bit like sweetcorn), and it’s one of the main feeds we grow for our beef cattle over winter.

Lots of people ask, β€œWhy not just feed grass?”

Our cattle do mostly graze outside, but maize adds a bit more to the winter diet for those close to finishing.....

🌽 The cobs are full of starch β€” that’s slow-release energy, a bit like pasta for people.

πŸ₯© The extra energy helps cattle grow steadily and finish better than on grass alone.

πŸ”„ It also mixes nicely with the grass silage, so the diet is balanced and every bite is the same.

When we walk the field, we’re mainly checking how full the cobs are and whether the grain has reached the right stage. Too early = not enough energy. Too late = hard to chop and harder for the cattle to digest.

Simple: harvest at just the right time and turn this crop into a dry, energy-packed silage that keeps the cattle thriving when the grass has stopped growing.

πŸ‘‰ And that’s why our beef tastes so good β€” the cattle have a healthy diet, according to their age and growth stage.

Also, by growing all the feed ourselves, we know exactly what goes into them, which means we can give you top-quality, flavoursome beef straight from our farm to your family πŸ’–
