UPDATE:

The A596 is set to be closed between Flimby and the Seaton turnoff due to a potential hazard from debris in the high winds. Motorists are asked to stay away from this area.

⚠️ Road closures are in place near Dunmail Park shopping centre, Workington, due to concerns over debris caused by today’s high winds.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue service are in attendance.
Road closures will be in place either side of the A596 next to the retail park for safety.
People are asked to avoid these routes and access will be restricted to the retail park.

📢Important Weather update📢
We will be keeping the museum closed tomorrow (Friday, 24 January 2025), due to Storm Eowyn, to protect our staff, volunteers, and visitors. If you were planning to visit the museum tomorrow, we apologise for this, but safety always comes first.!
Please note that Howling Wolf Artisan Bakery and Café will also be closed.

We will re-open on Saturday, 25 January 2025.

🌊Storm Eowyn Update 🌊

🌪️The team at Whitehaven Marina are battening down the hatches and have been diligently carrying out marina and boatyard checks today ahead of storm Eowyn.

🛠️We will continue to monitor the weather over the next 24 hours and will have a full team on site so please contact us if you would like us to carry out any specific checks.

🚫 The boatyard will be closed to all boat owners and contractors.

❌SCHOOL CLOSED❌

After monitoring the situation, we have made the decision to close school tomorrow, Friday 24th January.

Parents will be sent a message via EduLink regarding how work will be set and other arrangements.

School will re-open on Monday 27th January. Thank you for your patience. Stay safe everyone ☺️

Due to severe weather warnings, The Whitehaven Academy will be closed tomorrow, Friday 24th January.

Work for students will appear on satchel one for lessons that day. Please be aware that will appear from 9am onwards.

School will reopen on Monday 27th January.

🌬️SELLAFIELD EMPLOYEES & CONTRACTORS - STORM EOWYN 🌬️

Due to the amber weather warning of wind, all employees and contractors who can work from home on Friday 24 January between the hours 05:00 to 21:00 must do so.

Sellafield site attendance is limited to employees and contractors engaged in the delivery of front line operations and maintenance activities.

We also advise that employees and contractors who are planning to travel into Cumbria from outside of the county not to do so.

As a precautionary measure, all outside working on the Sellafield site is restricted in this period unless in the interests of maintaining nuclear safety or security and subject to risk assessments.

If you have any queries with the content of this message, please check with local management in the first instance.

All updates will be provided here, on the site shift managers information updates and on the employee area of our website if the situation changes.

➡️ Further information (updated at 8pm):

- All Sellafield apprentices based at off-site locations, including Energus, Gen2 and Lakes College, are advised to work from home.

- All off site offices are advised to work from home.

- North Gate will be closed to vehicles tomorrow. Pedestrian access will be unaffected. All other gates will be open as usual.

- The SOVA requirement for access to the Sellafield site has been removed for Friday 24 January. As a result no commuter or park and ride buses will operate.

- Building 111 will be closed tomorrow and therefore all training courses are cancelled. All training instructor-led training courses taking place around the Sellafield site are also cancelled.

- Numerous rail services have been cancelled tomorrow due to Storm Eowyn. Please check before you travel.
