AEON Laser Global kindly offered me one of their small but powerful CO2 lasers, the Mira Redline 5s with a 60w glass tube. It’s an amazing machine with features like toolless tube, mirror and lens changing, autofocus and a high resolution camera for lining up stuff easily in lightburn.
Chiller, fume extractor and air assist are also integrated so there’s no faffing around with piping and I can just vent fumes outside.
With a cutting area of 300x500mm and 60w of power it will be perfect for some of my small projects and with its passthrough slot I’ll be able to do larger stuff too. I plan to use it to make some money as a side hustle and show how easy it is to start a laser cutting and engraving business.
In this video Bill at Powell CNC (Aeon UK) popped down just before Christmas to help me set things up (big thanks again Bill!) showing how easy it is and how awesome UK support for their machines is.
I'm going to have a lot of fun with this machine in 2025 but I also plan to show that this is a "business in a box" capable of creating a nice little side hustle or even providing a full time income.
