MEET THE POETRY TRAIL TEAM!

Sue Miller loves community. She writes stories and poems that dive beneath the surface and uncover surprises lurking in the deep. She discovered sea swimming in lockdown and now does her best thinking when she's in the waves.

Jenny Smith is an emerging writer and poet living in Whitley Bay. A former teacher, she now home educates her children. Much of her work is based on family histories, her north east heritage, and a somewhat bohemian upbringing. She is an active voice in the local creative writing community. Three things she loves: tea, guitars, and dirt under her fingernails from working in the garden.

Mel Eaton is a writer, artist & creative facilitator. A lover of nature, words and images, Mel advocates the power of creativity to connect, grow and heal communities. She runs creative well-being workshops under the umbrella of Creative Space North East.

Siona Abrahams is a writer and poet, often writing poetry for anyone, about anything, under the banner of ‘Poems For a Pound’. She also dabbles with blogging over on whatmakesaweek.uk

Steve Lancaster is a poet, cartoonist, illustrator and board games designer based in Whitley Bay. He publishes his work under the brand name Weirdly Bay.

**OPEN CALL**

Poems For a Pound is a small collective of poets based in Whitley Bay who are looking for artists to add to an anthology of work. The anthology has been created using poems written at the local, monthly, Green Beans Market. It aims to explore the relationships between individuals and poetry and how it has the capacity to connect us to loved ones, our geographical area, and our passions and interests. We would like all entries to be black line drawings, drawn in response to a small selection of themes from within the anthology. The drawings must be no larger than 19x12cm and submitted to us in the format of a jpeg. For each drawing we wish to use in the anthology there will be a £5 payment and accreditation within the anthology.* Each artist can submit up to three drawings. We are accepting drawings from anyone who calls themselves an artist, whether you are well established or just beginning!

Please submit drawings that explore the following themes: natural landscape, cats, dogs, Paris, friendship, family and love.

*Each artist will retain the copyright to their own drawing, however Poems for a Pound will retain the right to use it in any further reproductions of the anthology.

Closing date: 30th September 2021

Hi everyone 👋🏻

We know we’ve been a bit quiet on here lately but we’re excited to reconnect with you all and share some of the things we’ve been squirrelling away at during this rather unusual year...in the meantime we’d love to hear from you! Each week we’ll be posting a new poem, with one of you providing the inspiration. We’re looking for one of you lovely lot to send us a story; it could be from your own life or about someone you adore or even just something that made you laugh or cry! Drop us a dm or an email and once we’ve written a poem in response, we’ll share it on our social media and (if your local) may even drop you your own special hard copy round.

In the absence of our usual markets we look forward to hearing from you all, a bit like if you’d stopped at our stall ‘back in the day’

Stay safe and get sending us those stories ✌🏻
