Here we have one of Ace Classics most recent Desert Sled builds.

The donor bike was a 1972 Triumph TR6R 650 and it has been built up for their client in France. Instagram:

This build was completed completely in house by Ace Classics and this thing beauty to behold.

In shot is Kev and Cliff Rushworth from Ace Classics.

We've got a full length YouTube video coming out on this bike where Kev from Ace Classics tells us all about the build. In the video he also shows us one of his personal desert sleds which is part of their personal collection.

Location is out the back of the Ace Classics shop, 101-103 St Mildreds Rd, London, SE12 0RL.

Thanks to Cliff and Kev at Ace Classics for having me along on the day to film with them.

The 1985 BMW R 80 G/S Paris-Dakar race bike was a specialised, factory-supported competition machine, developed primarily by HPN Motorradtechnik, that notably carried Gaston Rahier to victory in the Paris-Dakar Rally. Unlike the 798cc production R 80 G/S Paris-Dakar, these race bikes featured a highly-tuned 1043cc flat-twin boxer engine producing approximately 75 hp at 7500 rpm.

Key modifications included a heavily reinforced steel frame, long-travel, heavy-duty Marzocchi front forks offering significantly increased travel, and a custom WP shocks on a modified, mono lever swingarm for enhanced off-road performance. They utilised a 21-inch front wheel with aggressive knobby tires and upgraded braking systems. A distinctive feature was the oversized fuel tank, typically around 60 litres (15.8 US gallons), necessary for extended rally stages. Additional enhancements included extensive crash protection, rally-specific lighting, and navigation equipment, all contributing to its legendary status in the history of off-road racing.

Coolant change on the 1994 Ducati 916 in the paddock at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

There was a small paragraph in the Festival of Speed programme on the bike, here's what it said:

Ducati arrived in 1994 with a replacement for the outgoing 888 in the shape of the new 916, lauded by journalists at the time (and to this day) as one of the most important and groundbreaking motorcycles ever released. The bike was even endorsed by Fl great Ayrton Senna, and was sold out in the US before a single model landed in the country.

Owner in shot is Tom Irvine.

c.1982 Honda CB750F AMA Racer replica

The following text was on the board in front of the bike:

The bike is an excellent replica of the 750 Honda that Honda put together for Freddie Spencer to ride in AMA racing in America. AMA racing is where Superbike racing was born where instead of racing prototype specialised GP bikes, as in World Championship (mainly European) Grand Prix's AMA set rules up to allow race prepped road bikes to race at their top level. So, a standard road bike would end up with a very hot road-based engine bolted in to basically the standard chassis. Thus, the handling was pretty alarming on a bike capable of well over 160mph round the banking at Daytona etc. The best and bravest riders would race together, inches apart, at such speed. Freddie of course was very much one of the best.

Thank you to Goodwood for having me along on the weekend.

The 1927 BMW R47 featured a 494cc, air-cooled, flat-twin (Boxer) engine that produced 18 horsepower. Its key engineering distinction from many contemporaries and earlier BMW models was the use of overhead valves (OHV), enhancing its performance capabilities, with power delivered via a hallmark shaft drive system. This model was specifically developed as a sports and racing machine, directly succeeding earlier performance models like the R37 to solidify BMW's sporting reputation among privateers and enthusiasts. For suspension, it featured a leaf-spring front fork, while the rear employed a rigid frame ("hard-tail"), providing no dedicated rear suspension beyond tire and seat spring compliance. Produced in relatively low numbers, with approximately 1,720 units manufactured between 1927 and 1928, the R47 also notably integrated a toolbox into the top of the fuel tank, a practical feature for riders of the era.
