Before & After: How Colour Grading Transforms a Video.

Colour grading is one of the most important parts of video creation.

It helps turn the raw, flat footage into something that people can feel.

Here are some before and after clips of a famil video project that I have been working on.

When editing this, I wanted the colour to achieve 3 things:

✅ Build a naural look that feels real
✅ Use contrast without affecting skin tones
✅ Create separartion between the subject and background

Colour grading is one skill that is always improving.

Personal projects like this help me refine my style to take into work with brands and businesses.

Videos like this got me started in filmmaking 🎥

When I first picked up a camera, it wasn't to create videos for clients.

It was to capture moments like these and memories to look back on.

These early experiments are where I learned the basics of videography:

✅ Exposure
✅ Frame Rates
✅ Composition

Once I was comfortable in the basics then I would make more little videos focusing on much deeper skills:

✅ Capturing Emotions
✅ Mastering Natural Light
✅ Finding Rhythm in the Edit

Working on these skills gave me the confidence to share my work online and take on paid work.

I remember before making videos like these I couldn't even use my camera without it being on automatic mode!

There's something special about capturing real moments.

The small expressions, the curiosity, the bits of life you'd usually miss and don't get to look back on.

Projects like this always remind me why I got into making videos in the first place and always push my creativity in a different way than usual.

This was the very first video I made for The Anderton Centre back in 2022.

They wanted something to promote what they offer to the education sector which included both primary and secondary schools.

We needed to show that learning in nature helps bring about a sense of adventure with many benefits such as problem solving, being part of a team and pushing boundaries.

There was a lot of footage captured throughout the day but I didn't manage to capture any interviews with the kids due to time limits.

Because of this, I decided to include a short voiceover at the beginning and end to tie the whole thing together.

All parties were pleased with how this turned out.

Looking back there a few things I would of done differently but on the whole it still stands up as a great video.
