👀⬇️ an incredible charity that can make a real difference …. ⬇️
SPECIALIST SEARCH DOGS — WE’RE RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS
Specialist Search Dogs is growing, and we’re looking for new people to join us and help us move the charity forward.
Over recent months, we’ve had a change in our management structure, welcomed new trustees to the team and taken the opportunity to look carefully at how we develop the charity for the future.
We have a clear direction moving forward, and part of that is strengthening the team around us, sharing responsibilities and bringing in people with different skills, experience and ideas.
And you do NOT need to have a dog to get involved.
We’re interested in hearing from people who would like to volunteer across a range of roles, whether operationally, behind the scenes, or simply by bringing skills and experience that could help the charity develop.
One area we are particularly keen to strengthen is fundraising.
Like any volunteer search charity, fundraising is absolutely vital to what we do. Training, equipment, communications, insurance, operational costs and maintaining our capability to respond when required all cost money.
We’d therefore particularly like to hear from people who could help us with identifying and applying for grants and funding opportunities, approaching businesses and organisations for support or sponsorship, writing fundraising letters and applications, organising fundraising events and activities, developing relationships with potential supporters, or simply bringing fresh fundraising ideas to the team.
You don’t need previous search-and-rescue experience.
You don’t need to own a search dog.
You don’t necessarily need to want an operational role.
If you have useful skills, some spare time and would like to contribute to a volunteer organisation supporting searches for missing people, there could be a place for you within Specialist Search Dogs.
We’re also looking more widely at other roles within the charity, including Search Technicians, operational support, logistics, welfare, administration, communications, social media and other areas where people’s individual skills could benefit the team.
For those who would like to become more operationally involved, there may also be opportunities to develop across more than one role. Someone who initially joins us to help with fundraising or administration, for example, may also be interested in developing as a Search Technician or supporting the operational team.
We want people to be able to contribute according to their skills, experience, interests and availability.
Specialist Search Dogs is moving forward.
We have new trustees, a developing management structure and plans for the future. A major part of that future is bringing good people into the charity who want to help us build something sustainable, professional and effective.
And it’s important to remember that sometimes the person who makes the biggest difference to a search team isn’t the person holding the lead.
It might be the person who secured the grant that bought a vital piece of equipment.
The person who organised a fundraiser.
The person who approached a local business for sponsorship.
The person who dealt with administration behind the scenes.
The person who helped with logistics, welfare, communications or training.
Every one of those roles contributes towards putting a capable volunteer team into the field when somebody is missing and our assistance is required.
WANT TO JOIN THE TEAM?
If you think you could bring something to Specialist Search Dogs, whether that’s fundraising, administration, operational support, Search Technician work or another skill that could help the charity, we’d like to hear from you.
