Still in shock: not only did Gilles Peterson play ‘Preguntas Cosmicas’ from my album on BBC Radio 6 Music yesterday, but HE OPENED THE SHOW WITH IT!! 🤯

I’ve listened to every GP show without fail for most of my adult life. No one has influenced my musical taste more than him, and for me this is the highest accolade of all. I would say ‘never in my wildest dreams’, but honestly I did dream it, I did hope for it as much as I could have….but I never expected it! ✨

I’m as proud as can be, this is definitely a milestone on this musical journey that I will never forget, thank you Gilles! 🙏

Side note - the track he played is the first one on the album, which I always felt was the ‘lift off’ track, so it was even more special that they added all these space launch sound bites and FX to it!! YES!! 🚀

We Out Here Festival was totally magical, what a vibe. Thank you Gilles Peterson & Noah Ball for curating such an incredible festival. 💥

It was so special to be there among so many friends and musical heroes, and eternally grateful that I was able to showcase my album at the Passenger Ground Tempo stage….what incredible timing as well, less than a month before it comes out, with the records arriving just days before the festival (thank you Aram Raffy and chris coco for the delivery!). I will always cherish this moment. Thank you to everyone who came along for a boogie, who bought the record, said hi, for all the luurrrvvve! ❤️

Everyone here on the island getting all excited about the Shakshukaclipse…I mean personally I don’t get it, the sun will be covered in Shakshuka and we’ll all be covered in egg and tomato for a couple of mins, so what? Should be nice and warm at least?

Can’t really find words to describe how excited and honoured I am to be playing at We Out Here Festival 😍

No one has shaped and influenced my music taste more than Gilles Peterson so it’s an absolute dream to be a part of his festival, alongside this incredible lineup!

Amazing that it will also be around the time my album will be coming out, what a place to be able to showcase it! 👾

A little more on the making of Rmoosh Arabiya ft. Dani Moham 🌞

Most of the time, my process for making tunes is more jamming on my MPC and letting the music decide where to go rather than having a specific idea of what I want to make. But I did have an intention here, some kind of fusion of Lovers Rock and Desert Blues / Arab folk. I had a bass line and this melody kind of came to me. MoMo Loudiyi the humble and incredibly skilled guitarist he is, encouraged me to sing it to him, and despite my insecurities, he played it perfectly and brought it to life. 

I then played the sketch to any friend Yuri, who suggested adding a female voice. I’m wary of working with singers, it’s such a sensitive thing and can totally ruin a song, but it seemed like a good idea. I wanted a female Arabic singer, and my friend Ahmed in Melbourne Ahmad Atawneh connected me to Dani. It was totally serendipitous…when I was talking to him, for some reason Al Sarah and the Nubatones came to my head. Not because I wanted the voice to sound like that…I really don’t know why! But he tells me ‘I have someone in mind’, sends me a video, and it’s Dani doing a cover of an Al Sarah and the Nubatones song 👀⚡️so it instantly felt like it was meant to be. And her voice totally blew me away!

She liked the track, and wrote beautiful lyrics….It’s a love song but also a bit tongue in cheek…it fits the track perfectly. I have infinite respect for Dani as an artist and as a human, her roots are from Lebanon / Syria, and she managed to write the lyrics and record the song during a very difficult and scary time. Plus she kindly used Dalia (my dog’s name) for the chorus so that was the icing on the cake!
