Emotions ran high when American Magic Quantum Racing docked back at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda having just won the 2025 52 Super Series title. After 18 years of competing, first in the Med Cup and then starting as a co-founder of the 52 Super Series, the final event of the season was also the final event for the DeVos family’s Quantum team. Quantum have consistently set the performance standard for the circuit – and, whether winning the season or not, they have been a big driver for the level getting higher every year. Doug DeVos was fundamental to the founding of the circuit and has been a cornerstone to its continued success.

Kate Cope, director of the UK Double Handed Offshore Series , talks to a top Dutch doublehanded team about the secrets of their offshore racing success.

Astrid De Vin and Roeland Franssens started sailing together in 2019. Roeland has been sailing all his life on boats from J-Class and Swan 45 to Class40, both full crewed and doublehanded. Astrid had her first taste of doublehanded sailing on a delivery for the North Sea Race, a race she has competed in since 2012. Like many it was Covid that ignited her love of doublehanded sailing.

Since its launch only last year, MC1 Spars has established itself as an important player in the demanding world of composite spar fabrications with an order book already full of interesting and diverse projects for all tiers of performance sailing.

This impressive level of initial success comes from a unique approach to customisation that focuses on use of the appropriate talent and tools in design and engineering for each project, the very best in high quality materials and fabrication techniques, and an efficiency in their process that allows for extremely fair and accessible pricing and delivery timelines.

Sicomin has completely reformulated one of its original resin systems – and it’s now being used to build a new generation of low-carbon racing yachts

The timing was perfect. Just as Sicomin completed a longrunning R&D process to replace one of its keystone product lines with a brand new eco-friendly epoxy resin, an ambitious plan to design and build a next-generation range of low-carbon offshore racing yachts was gathering pace. There couldn't be a better proving ground for the new Greenpoxy 550 – a bio-based resin system designed specifically for hand lamination of timber-and-fibre composites – than the Greenscow initiative, which aims to demonstrate that plywood is a viable hull construction material for Mini 6.50s, Class40s and Imoca 60s.

Since its founding in 1996, Quantum Sails has taken a unique approach to sailmaking. Over the years, the company has reimagined not only how sails are designed and built, but also the role of the sailmaker itself. Quantum’s collaborative, high-touch, performance-driven ethos continues to resonate as the sport evolves.

Among the many differentiators developed and championed by Quantum is the concept of a “Factory Team” competing at the highest levels of yacht racing. Borrowed from Formula 1 and other professional circuits, the model provides direct access to performance data and collaboration between designers and sailors. Real-time feedback, combined with hard metrics gathered in the most competitive environments, creates a fast testing-and-innovation cycle that optimises performance and reliability.

As high-performance rigs and sails increase in stiffness, Armare Ropes are matching those improvements by creating custom cordage to meet each application. But even the best ropes will elongate over time, a scientific reality known as “creep.”

Creep is ‘a progressive and irreversible deformation that affects materials subjected to constant stress over time,’ explains Stefano Finco, general manager at Armare Ropes. There are many factors that will increase creep, including load levels, time under load, temperature and humidity. And though there are several different types of creep, two will most affect sail setting and trimming: the initial elongation, and the more gradual stretching that occurs over a rope’s lifetime.

As Rigging Projects has grown from a small boutique consulting business to a high-end manufacturer its ethos – and its success – have not changed.

Rigging Projects has earned a reputation for being a highly responsive, agile and innovative business at the top end of the industry. That reputation still holds true, but the scale of the company today looks very different from when it was founded in 2014.

The return of the Admiral’s Cup in 2025 sent a wave of excitement through the global sailing community. Widely seen as the unofficial World Cup of offshore racing, the revival attracted elite international teams competing under IRC in a uniquely challenging format that mixed inshore intensity with offshore endurance.

At the core of several standout campaigns was Hall Spars , which is globally recognised for delivering trusted carbon spar and rig packages through close collaboration with owners, designers and naval architects. With more than four decades of expertise, Hall Spars supports a variety of projects from new builds to complex upgrades and refits.
