Consistency and confidence are fundamental to success on a buoyant, highly competitive @52 Super Series this season. No change there! But for sure these are just two of the assets that Terry Hutchinson has brought to circuit leaders American Magic on his return from the America’s Cup. However, it is fair to add that the recent podiums for Andrea Lacorte’s Alkedo in Galicia and Jean- Luc Petithugenin’s Paprec, which came within a hair’s breadth of winning the Rolex TP52 World Championship, have been built on a solid base of similar qualities.

The design takes its DNA from the famous Bristol Pilot Cutters of the 19th century which were renowned for their speed and seakeeping abilities—a generous sail plan and modern underwater profile ensure performance is exceptional. Hoek have refined the design to include a very spacious cockpit and flush deck areas as well as an airy and light interior with 3 double cabins and 2 heads. The series PC’s are built by Metur Yacht in Turkey who have been building for Hoek design for 20 years and have built and delivered 9 of the PC series of various sizes. Zulu VII is Hull No.2 of a series of five PC 55’s built and delivered between 2017-2024.

The Double handed Offshore Worlds is attracting some great young talent, writes Kate Cope, director of the UK Doublehanded Series.

In September the second edition of the Doublehanded Offshore Worlds is in Cowes, organised by the RORC. The racing will take place in a fleet of matched Sun Fast 30ODs and 21 teams from 14 countries (AUS, CAN, DEU, FRA, GBR, J*P, NED, NOR, NZL, RSA, SWE, TUR, URG, USA) have expressed interest.

Any analysis of Cameron Appleton’s sailing career will quickly establish a consistent theme of loyalty and team before ego. While Appleton, who is a Doyle Sails partner at the Newport, Rhode Island loft, has worked constantly to advance his skills as a master tactician and helmsman, the goal has always been to better serve the teams and owners he races for.

Appleton’s loyalty and work ethic are probably best demonstrated in his ongoing relationship with Chris Bake and the Team Aqua crew in the RC44 circuit. He signed up as Bake’s tactician for the inaugural owner-driver regatta in 2007 and has been with him ever since.
