There were no draws across any of the 14 fixtures played in the Apsley League over the weekend, and teams at home won ten of the contests played.
As expected, the most intense competition was Saturday's five chillis show down between Riverside B and Twyford B, which Riverside narrowly took 5-3 -- a result that makes them clear favourites to go on and win Div 2 as champions now. Twyford pushed them all the way, forcing 167 games to be played, the most intense fixture this summer so far measured by number of games played. Riverside B had only dropped two rubbers in their previous five fixtures.
Wellow B managed to get two wins from their double-feature weekend, beating Colden Common 5-1 on Saturday and Glebian 7-1 on Sunday. Two rubbers are missing from the Colden Common result, but with the score as it is Wellow bags the win no matter which side forfeited the missing rubbers. Wellow B surge to second place in Div 4 thanks to those wins.
And it was a bit of a disappointing showing in the elite divisions, where Lee on Solent, Kingsgate A and South Hants A only brought partials teams on the road to face Thornden A, Warsash A and Wi******er A. The home teams won all three very easily, 8-0 wins in each case. Must be that time of the summer where some teams throw in the towel, especially for away fixtures, and with holiday season at its peak.
