Plymouth Argyle are in contact with the Zimbabwe Football Association about an issue over the expected inclusion of defender Brendan Galloway in their final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco at the end of December.

The official date for Galloway and other players to join up with the Warriors' squad is Monday December 8, which is two weeks before they kick off their Group B campaign at the tournament.

However, Argyle have an away League One game against Wycombe Wanderers the following night and they are hoping that Galloway can be involved for them in that match at Adams Park before leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Galloway played at left-back for the Pilgrims in their 1-0 victory over Port Vale last Saturday before being replaced in the second half by Ayman Benarous, who then had to be substituted in the closing stages.

It was feared that Benarous had suffered a hamstring injury but he has been given the all clear to be available for selection for the game against Northampton Town at Home Park on Saturday.

Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley said: "Brendan played really well at left-back last week so the news on Ayman Benarous, knowing that Brendan will most likely go away (with Zimbabwe), was huge for us."

Chinyerere brace fires Zimbabwe to victory over Malawi in Three Nations Tournament opener

Rising star Ethel Chinyerere inspired the Mighty Warriors to a strong start in the Three Nations Women’s Tournament, scoring twice to secure a 2–1 win over hosts Malawi at Bingo National Stadium in Lilongwe.

Zimbabwe started brightly, with Chinyerere giving the visitors a dream lead in the 10th minute. The in-form forward struck again just before halftime, producing a composed finish in the 40th minute to double the advantage.

Malawi responded almost immediately, pulling a goal back two minutes later, but the Mighty Warriors held their defensive shape to protect their lead and claim a confidence-boosting victory in their opening match of the tournament.

Goalkeeper Cynthia Shonga delivered a solid performance between the posts, contributing to Zimbabwe’s resilient display.

The win marks an encouraging return to competitive action for the Mighty Warriors, who had last played in February when they lost to Angola in the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Zimbabwe coach Sithethelewe Sibanda praised the players for a spirited performance.

“It was a good game but very tough for us after nine months of inactivity. We knew that Malawi having played a game recently, there cohesion was going to be much better than us. But we had a good tactical defensive shape to contain them,” said Sibanda.

Zimbabwe will face Zambia on December 2 in their final match of the competition, where the team with the highest points will be crowned champions.

Zimbabwe Gems rally to beat Namibia in Celtic Cup Clash

Glasgow – The Zimbabwe Gems produced a spirited comeback to overturn an early deficit and secure a convincing 49–39 victory over Namibia in their Celtic Cup encounter at the Emirates Arena on Friday.

Zimbabwe trailed by three goals after the first quarter but responded with composure and dominance in the remaining periods to record their second win of the tournament. The result comes as a major confidence boost after their 56–42 defeat to Wales on Thursday.

The Gems began their campaign on a positive note with a strong 57–40 win against Northern Ireland on Wednesday, setting the tone for their competitive showing in Glasgow.

Next, Zimbabwe will face one of the tournament favourites, the Uganda Cranes, in a highly anticipated fixture scheduled for tomorrow at 17:00 (Zimbabwean time).

Zimbabwe is set to host Australia for a three-match ODI series in 2026, ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup in southern Africa.

Australia will make a brief stop in Harare, and possibly Bulawayo, for the ODI series before their tour of South Africa later that year. The new Victoria Falls Stadium is unlikely to be ready in time.

Zimbabwe Cricket had hoped to include a one-off Test, but Australia’s packed schedule means the tour will feature ODIs only. With Zimbabwe co-hosting the 2027 World Cup, the series will be an important part of preparations.

🔥 Massive fixtures incoming on home soil.

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou says the Scottish Premiership club are in talks with the Zimbabwe FA about when their inform forward Tawanda Maswanhise will join up with the Warriors for the Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on December 21 in Morocco.

Askou revealed this to the Scottish ahead of his side's Premiership match with leaders Hearts.

The Danish manager said Maswanhise, who is the Scottish Premiership's top scorer is "extremely important because he has that ability to really explode" with his pace.

Askou however says while it's a blow to lose the forward for the AFCON finals , Motherwell have "a plan" and it doesn't mean they'll be less competitive in that position.

Zimbabwe Warriors defender Teenage Hadebe will stay in Major League Soccer for at least another season after FC Cincinnati exercised the option on his contract for 2026.

The American club confirmed the decision in their end-of-season roster update, announcing that Hadebe is among six players whose options have been picked up following the 2025 campaign.

The move secures the 29-year-old’s place in a defensive unit that also includes Matt Miazga, Miles Robinson and ÁLvaro Barreal.

Zimbabwe cricket T20I captain Sikandar Raza has reached another remarkable milestone in his glittering international career, becoming the world’s No.1 ranked all-rounder in T20I cricket for the first time.

The 38-year-old all-rounder climbed to the summit in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings released this week, capping off a period of consistent personal brilliance despite Zimbabwe’s mixed results in the ongoing tri-series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Raza’s rise follows another influential display in Rawalpindi on Tuesday night, where he top-scored for Zimbabwe with a brisk 37 off 29 balls and delivered a miserly spell of 0/17 in four overs.

Although Zimbabwe fell to Sri Lanka by nine wickets, the skipper’s leadership and individual contributions once again stood out.

Bonne’s AFCON wish granted with surprise inclusion in 51-man provisional Warriors squad

By Zim Sport Live

New Zimbabwe Warriors coach Marian Marinica has sensationally started over the entire AFCON squad selection, announcing a massive 51-member provisional squad for the continental showpiece in Morocco next month, a list that includes the formerly overlooked striker, Macauley Bonne.

The Romanian tactician, dubbed “Super Mario,” delivered on his promise to make an independent team selection, stamping his authority just weeks after his appointment.

Crucially, the move throws a lifeline to a number of players conspicuously ignored by his predecessor, Michael Nees, most notably Macauley Bonne, whose desperate plea for a national team return barely a month ago has now been answered.

Bonne, 30, who has represented the Warriors a handful of times but was recently out of the setup, had openly expressed his frustration and desire to wear the national colours again. His emotional plea came after the Warriors had struggled in recent international outings, losing to Lesotho after holding South Africa in World Cup qualifiers.

“If my country calls me again, I’ll bleed for that jersey. I’ve waited too long, and Zimbabwe deserves better. I’m hungry — hungrier than ever,” Bonne told ZiGoats on October 30, 2025.
