Zimbabwe dent Bafana’s hopes after resilient display

South Africa were frustrated by a stubborn Zimbabwe side as the two teams drew 0-0 in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualification (Group C) match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday night.

The result saw Bafana Bafana remain second in the Group C standings, but they are now two points behind leaders Benin with one game left. Bafana will qualify directly for the World Cup if they overcome Rwanda at home and the other results go their way.

The Warriors, on the other hand, remain sixth in the Group C table after registering their fifth draw. Zimbabwe will be determined to wrap up their failed qualifying campaign with a victory over their Southern African rivals, Lesotho, on Monday.

Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent refused to dwell on disappointment after narrowly missing out on a second victory of the season at the Jakarta International Championship, losing in a playoff to Australia’s Wade Ormsby on Sunday.

Vincent was on course to become the first player to win back-to-back events on The International Series having won the International Series Morocco in July before losing to Australian Wade Ormsby on the first hole of a sudden-death play-off.

Ormsby triumphed after making a routine par on the par-four 18th, where Vincent found water with his second shot.

Washington Arubi, the 40-year-old Zimbabwe goalkeeper, was the hero as Marumo Gallants stunned Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday in the South African League Cup by winning on penalties.

He saved three spot kicks, two with an outstretched leg, then converted the penalty that gave Marumo a 7-6 victory in the first round tie after a 0-0 draw following extra time.

Sundowns have dominated domestic football for almost a decade, winning the last eight editions of the league, and have become serious contenders each season for the CAF Champions League.

Opening batsman Tadiwanashe Marumani struck an unbeaten 74 from 61 balls to seal a thrilling seven-wicket win for Zimbabwe over Namibia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

Marumani was imperious at the crease and carried his side through the run chase, which went right down to the wire before being completed in the 19th over.

Some late nerves were eased when Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann opened that over with two costly no-balls, releasing the pressure on Zimbabwe.

Golf star Scott Vincent shot an outstanding 62 to soar up the leaderboard from a tie for 49 to sharing the lead after the third round of the US$2million Jakarta International Championship, being played at Damai Indah Golf - P*K Course, in North Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Zimbabwean star continued his red hot form with a spectacular round which featured eight birdies and no bogeys to put himself firmly in contention for a second victory on the Asian Tour this season.

Vincent is in a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard with Indian Bhullar Gaganjeet and Australia's Wade Ormsby on 11-under par.

Scott already has a victory under his belt this season after he roared to victory at International Series Morocco.

That impressive four-shot victory reignited his chances of a quick return to LIV Golf just a year after losing his place on the Iron Heads GC team at the end of the 2024 season.

Another victory in Indonesian on Sunday would further strengthen his chances of a return to the money-spinning golf circuit.

Meanwhile Scott's young brother Kieran is also in contention after carding a 68 to move into a tie for ninth position on eight-under par, just three shots off the lead.
