“Giving back to the community is such a key thing.”

We spoke to some incredible people at 2000trees about what’s possible when arena and stadium level artists give back to grassroots music, and whether they would do the same. Here’s what these legends had to say.

We would encourage any artists who feel the same way to consider signing the MVT Artist Pledge - a promise that when the time comes, you’ll back the places, scenes and communities that helped you get to wherever you end up.

Our next artist feature in Volume 10 comes from the amazing Caroline Gibaut AKA Petrouchkaka who is a wonderful illustrator from Brittany, currently residing in Brussels. Caroline likes to send viewers into a little treasure hunt by incorporating pop culture references and personal messages into her work.

“She’s a free spirit who’s always been on the move. Her detailed, pop and colourful illustrations feature hybrid characters with bird heads, celebrating the female body and the diversity of its curves, symbolising strength and freedom.”

Our next artist in Volume 10 is the phenomenal Manu De Mey who is based in Antwerp. An experience at Burning Man festival inspired Manu to get back to drawing and painting after a 30 year hiatus, and we’re so glad he did. Working primarily in figurative art and portraiture, Manu creates emotionally charged, visually striking works that often embrace ambiguity.

“His portraits leave viewers questioning what they see; victim or offender, leader or follower, strength or vulnerability. Populated by melancholic figures with suppressed emotion, his work often explores beauty alongside damage and emotional complexity.”
