👽 Our athletes invaded the Martian Race!

A great turnout from Woking AC at Sunday’s Martian Race, one of our favourite local trail events, with runners tackling everything from the Mini Martians through to the Half Marathon on the scenic trails of Horsell Common. Organised entirely by volunteers, the event is a brilliant fixture in the local running calendar and raises thousands of pounds each year for local charities. (martianrace.org)

Representing our senior endurance squad were:
🏃 Claire Brittain – Half Marathon
🏃 Rohini Keites – 10K
🏃 Will Smithard – Half Marathon
🏃 Tom Illingworth – Half Marathon

Our junior section was also flying the Woking colours:
🥈 Jess Taylor finished 2nd in the 5K
🥈 Katie Taylor finished 2nd in the Mini Martians race

Well done to everyone who took on the trails and represented the club so brilliantly. It’s always fantastic to see Woking AC members out in force at one of our local races!

🇬🇧 Woking AC on the national stage.

Not every day you get to see a Woking AC vest on national television!

A big congratulations to Tyler Panton, who represented Woking AC in the 200m at this weekend’s UK Athletics Championships.

Tyler crossed the line in 21.60 against the very best sprinters in the country.

Running at the UK’s premier athletics event is an achievement that most athletes can only dream of. Everyone at Woking AC is immensely proud to see one of our own competing at that level and flying the flag for the club.

Congratulations, Tyler. 👏🧡

☀️ Hot racing, strong results… and it’s all to play for.

Race 6 of 8 in the Surrey Road League took us to the Ranelagh 10K, where temperatures were already nudging 24°C before the race even got underway.

Everyone knew what kind of day it was going to be. The temperature was already 24°C before the start, making this one of the toughest races of the Surrey Road League season.

The results reflected that, with another excellent team performance from Woking AC:

🥈 Men’s team – 2nd
👏 Women’s team – 4th

A huge congratulations to everyone who pulled on the orange vest.

🏃‍♂️ John Hutchins was once again right at the sharp end, finishing 2nd overall in 32:30, while Jamie Ludlow claimed 3rd M35-44 in 35:01.

Also flying the flag for Woking were:

* David Brighton – 36:24
* Aidan Swain – 36:27
* Hugh Nurse – 37:01
* James Gamble – 37:37
* Juan Gonzalez – 37:43
* Daiman Law – 38:28
* Rich Adams – 39:03
* Mark Rose – 40:53
* Fraser Chamley – 45:17
* Paul Duxbury – 45:52
* Andrew Collings – 45:54
* Kim Warner – 55:05
* Adam Johnstone – 1:03:15

Our women also produced some brilliant performances, led by Martha Collings, who claimed 1st Female 15-34 in 37:38.

Joining Martha in orange were:

* Kylara Hassall – 41:09
* Georgina Furze – 41:56
* Amy Johnson – 46:54
* Michelle Waddington – 53:42
* Abi White – 54:07
* Fiona Bishop – 56:29
* Charlotte Watson – 1:03:06

A big thank you to Ranelagh Harriers, who have now hosted their second Surrey Road League fixture of the season. Organising races on this scale is no small task, and they’ll be back to host the league finale later this summer.

With just two races remaining, both our men’s and women’s teams are still firmly in the hunt for the Surrey Road League titles.

Next up is the Elmbridge 10K, before the season concludes with Ranelagh’s unique 3K burn-up, featuring eight waves of racing where every second could make the difference.

Bring on the final two races! 🧡

Meet the Coach | James Gamble 🏃‍♂️

Ever wondered what your VO₂ max is? Or why everyone keeps talking about threshold sessions?

If you’re looking to take your running to the next level, James leads our endurance squad with two structured sessions every week, helping runners of all abilities improve through carefully planned training.

One session focuses on building your aerobic engine (VO₂ max), the other on threshold training—giving you the fitness to run faster for longer.

But joining Woking AC is about far more than training plans.

🏃 Train alongside runners who’ll push and encourage you.
🤝 Be part of a friendly team competing across Surrey and beyond.
👟 Spend far too much time discussing the latest carbon-plated shoes (it’s almost compulsory!).
📍 Train at the fantastic SportsBox facility right here in Woking.

Whether you’re chasing a marathon PB, your first sub-20 5K, or simply want to enjoy your running more, James and the endurance squad would love to welcome you.

Come along and see what structured training—and being part of a great club—can do for your running

🧡 Remembering Fred

Thank you to everyone who gathered before training last Tuesday to pay their respects to Fred Bell. It was wonderful to see so many members come together to remember a man who gave so much to our club and to athletics.

We’re also grateful to Eleanor Gatrell for the beautiful words she shared in Fred’s memory, capturing so much of what made Fred special – his passion for running, his generosity with his time, and his unwavering enthusiasm for helping others.

For those who would like to attend, Fred’s Celebration of Life will take place on Friday 26th June at 1pm at St John’s Church, St John’s. Fred’s family have asked that people wear colour rather than black.

As club members, perhaps the most fitting tribute we can pay to Fred is to continue enjoying every moment of the sport he loved so dearly, and to pay it forward to future generations, just as he did.
