Hitting, biting, and pushing (and other challenging behaviours) are ways in which toddlers express stored or pent-up emotions when words fail. Most toddlers go through a hitting, biting or pushing phase. Such commonplace behaviours have nothing to do with how well children are parented unless there are exceptional circumstances. We share some tips for what to do when this happens.

One of the most common questions we get is where do you store it all and how!

When you have a different theme every week for 2 years it’s not easy! But I spent today sorting out the storage….is it just me or does anyone else find it super satisfying when you’ve had a massive sort out! Videos are during and after!

As toddlers grow up, they go through different stages of brain development, which influence the acquisition of physical and mental skills.

With increasing brain maturity, toddlers gradually develop the skills that they will need in their adult lives. Even so, the brain must be ready to move on to the next stage of development. Parents and practitioners may worry that they should be doing more to help toddlers, but they can only hurry them on so much. Each toddler is unique and will develop at his or her own pace.

The most important thing that parents and practitioners can do is provide a loving, supportive and consistent environment. A happy contented toddler learns easily and quickly. If a significant lag is identified, the sooner appropriate treatment and support can be given, the better. [Source: Dr Lin Day article]

Its the first Friday of the new school term so we thought it was a good time to think about road safety 🚘🚲🏃‍♀️

Whether your child walks / bikes themselves to school, walks with you or you go in the car or on the bus, they need to be aware of how to keep safe

If you have a smaller child always encourage hand holding when walking near roads

We should all remember the Green Cross Code and Stop, Look and Listen before crossing the road

Be aware of the 20mph drop off zone around schools ⚠️

Wherever possible when travelling by car try to park away from the main entrance and walk the final part of your journey so the road is less congested, meaning less hazards

Teach your child about safe crossings like zebra or pelican crossings and always cross with the lollipop person if possible

Remind children to also look for cyclists not just cars, if your child cycles to school make sure they have an appropriate helmet

In 2023 1,276 children aged 7 and under were killed or seriously injured whilst walking or cycling

❤️❤️ To all our amazing Toddler Sense families – this week may feel like some big steps are being taken, as those little hands reach for something new and exciting.

As parents, we hold our breath a little tighter, smile a little braver, and remind ourselves that they are ready for this.

Your little ones will be loved, cared for, and guided as they continue to grow, explore, and discover the world around them.

It’s never easy to let go, but oh, how incredible it is to watch them soar.
