In the early hours of August 2nd, 1986, 21-year-old Diane was murdered in Birkenhead as she made her way home from work.

Nearly forty years later, the case remains unresolved.

This film revisits the streets and locations connected to Diane’s final journey, combining present-day footage with original photographs to tell the story of what happened — and what is still unknown.

In 1987, a man was convicted of Diane’s murder. That conviction has since been quashed after new DNA evidence proved the killer was someone else. The DNA has not yet been matched, and detectives continue to search for answers.

Police believe Diane left her job at the Wellington pub in Bebington at around 11:45pm on Friday, August 1st, 1986. Her blue Fiat van later ran out of petrol on Borough Road. Her body was discovered several hours later in an alleyway nearby.

On August 17th, 1986, some of Diane’s personal belongings were found on Bidston Hill. Witnesses reported seeing a small fire at the site and a man running from the area on Sunday, August 3rd.

Crimestoppers is offering a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
