A busy day yesterday. An early morning trip to the Longshore pub in Shoreham for the American car meet. Then onto Denbies wine estate in Dorking for the Surrey and Sussex BMW Owners Club M Power show. After that it was off to Brooklands Museum American car day.

There’s nothing like a trip down memory lane.

Around 1979 or 1980, my dad was looking for a new car, and he took me to see a Series 1 Jaguar XJ6.
It was British Racing Green with a cream leather interior. I loved it.

But when we arrived, someone else was already looking over the car, so we went to see another one I hadn’t been told about: a 1972 Toyota Crown Coupe in light blue.

My heart was set on the Jag. So when my dad said he was buying the Toyota, I was not happy.

But once it was ours, I grew to love it. I’ve got really fond memories of that car now.
They’re incredibly rare today, unlike the XJ6, you can count the surviving Crown Coupes on one hand.

So imagine how pleased I was to spot this excellent example at the Bromley Pageant of Motoring yesterday.
The owner was lovely and even invited me to sit inside while we chatted. It honestly made my day.

A massive thank you to Nigel from the Surrey and Sussex BMW Owners Club for allowing me to hop in his car and attend this show. It was an early start waking up at 5am in order to get there and set up. Seeing the area fill up with cars was a sight to behold. It was vast! Sad to hear that people were in a queue up to 2 miles long though.
