Home Is Where The Art Is

Home Is Where The Art Is Mondays 6pm to 8pm on Calon 105 FM. Covering everything arts, culture and community in Wrexham.

12/10/2023

Do you have a treasured object that relates to the Wrexham area?

This maybe a family heirloom, something you have found or were given which could add to Wrexham’s history?

If so, Rona Campbell would be interested in meeting you in the Maker Space at Tŷ Pawb on Thursday 12th October 2023, between 10am-12 and 1pm-4pm.

By sharing your treasures and the story behind them, you could be contributing to the recording the history of our City, in a way that it has never been told before.

Check out this open call for images from- Ty Cornel/UnDegUn! They're putting together a Retrospective Exhibition to celebrate both venues!

OPEN CALL - Ty Cornel/UnDegUn Retrospective Exhibition

In the process of saving Ty Cornel we’ve decided to throw a retrospective exhibition to showcase its history - as it is now and as it was as UnDegUn.

We want to share the memories, stories, and images that remind us of the important role both places have played in the arts in Wrexham.

So, this is an open call for anyone who has spent time in either place to contribute images and words to celebrate that history.

How do we do that?

Do you have photos taken in either place?

Then submit them to the show. Anyone can submit any photo and contribute to telling the story of the two places.

Don’t have photos?

Then submit some words, share a memory or a story.
You can print these things off yourself and drop them off to us, or even put them on the wall yourself.

Everybody’s voice is equal here. Nothing will be turned down.

Then join us on the evening of June 9th to see and share in the history. There’ll be drink, an open mic, and the chance to share with each other the joy of our shared past and to help build the future of the arts.

If you'd like to contribute please email [email protected]

Powerful suff this:

The first time I spoke my poetry live in front of an audience was at Undegun art space, now known as Ty Cornel (2017 - pictured below). It was the most nervous I had ever felt. I performed in front of a bunch of vibrant and supportive people who listened and engaged with what I had to say and responded to me in the most beautiful and heartening way. It is this that acted as a catalyst to my belief that I could pursue my love of street poetry and gave me a platform to express all I had written. It was the start of my journey.

Currently, Ty Cornel is in desperate need of funding and I urge you all to donate what you can and/or share the fundraiser below. Without spaces like this, young people will lose out on an avenue to express themselves creatively; to engage with various audiences, showcase their talents and, gain invaluable experience. Without Ty Cornel and places alike - the arts scene would simply not exist.

When we invest in art and art spaces, we invest in ours and younger generations futures. We invest in future TV production, photography, art, comedy, music and musicianship - community and togetherness. COVID showed us just how important art is to all. During which, many of us reached for our favourite songs, creative outlets, programmes and even took the plunge and picked up that guitar, paint brush and notepad - pursuing goals previously left behind for the grind. We used art to find some way of coping with the difficulties of lockdown and isolation; it provided both solace and comfort at a time we so desperately needed connection.

Without Ty Cornel's existence who knows, there may never have been an Evrah Rose. I never would have took to the stage that evening and I may never have met some of the most brilliant and talented people I'll ever be blessed to know.

We cannot afford to lose Ty Cornel.
Let's get behind them! Afterall, community is what we do best ❤️

Up the Town!
