As we move towards the cooler and wetter weather of autumn, the annual discussion of all-season or winter tyres has come round again. A few years ago, a study showed that 80% of drivers in the UK don't use them, but they are increasingly recommended by safety groups, particularly for their increased stopping capabilities in the cold.

Tell us if you do or don't use all-season or winter tyres, and why. We'd be interested to know what you think! ^JB

The Can of Worms:

A few years back, we ran a 2005 Td4 Freelander and one day the missus moaned at me because one of the heater panel bulbs had blown.

So one Saturday morning, I boiled the kettle and cracked the tools open.

Screws, clips, Bowden cables, you name the bugg*r... had to be unclipped or undone to get to one bloody bulb and holder. My hands were that scratched and cut you'd think I'd been being playing with a basket of tiger cubs. I was on the flipping job for almost 3 hours.

What seemingly simple job did you undertake that turned out to be a never ending absolute hell of a gig?

Wet Weather Wally's:

We've had some proper rain and storms in the saaarf.... Putting your wipers on fast and your rear fog lamps on does not allow you to carry on at warp factor 8.

What weather related poor driving standards grinds your gears?

'ere... Did you know???

Britain's first fixed speed camera was on the M40 in 1991.

It could only take 400 exposures for prosecution before it ran out of film... Which it did just 38 minutes after being switched on!
