As Christmas is now in full swing one thing I will say. And I’d love to know what other DJs think.

Christmas parties for a lot of DJs can end being frustrating compared to most of the more regular type gigs.

The audience usually consist of very mixed age ranges, and people who don’t really get out or even drink very often.
So you can almost gurantee 1 person won’t be happy with the music selections. 🙈

You know, I actually got boo’ed at this weekend for the first time ever 😂
And I love these type of compliments as it makes me wanna work harder.

Being open formatted, I’ll usually play such a diverse selection of music and will try to cater for every age in the room. I’m always very open to requests as it can help jog my memory and remember tracks I haven’t played in a while. And I’ll usually play around 98% of requests i get.
Even it’s stupid & weird, I’ll find some kind of way to make it fit in somewhere.

Half the music I play, I cant stand my self.
When you’re playing the same requested songs about 600x a year they get very boring.

But as a dj when I’m stood behind the decks and see the people come together and fully loose them selfs in the energy and love of music, there really is no better feeling! 🥰

Being a an open formatted DJ can be challenging at times…

Whilst most of our events tend to be fairly generic, playing the cheesy/pop party music.
We get nights that were asked for music we don’t usually tend to play. It’s nights like this I absolutely love! An helps open format DJs grow with a bigger knowledge of music.

Tonight we’re covering a 40th birthday party for Future Media at Newton Abbot in the Jolly Farmer, and Mike who’s brithday it is, is a proper rock fan.
So he’s got us digging out the Slipknot, Limp Biscuit and System of a Down tracks out….

We had a blast celebrating Joe's 30th birthday last night! 🎉 DB Disco kept the party rocking with a custom playlist tailored just for him, featuring all his favorite Trance and Bounce tracks. We even played some adult versions of musical statues and musical chairs!
