Today we said our final goodbyes to a true legend. Steve Swales 💙

It’s well known that I started out in butchery with one of my best pals, Steves grandson, Luke. We both got Saturday jobs at Knavesmire Butchers when we were 15 or 16, and that’s when I first met Steve.

I knew Steve for around 13 years, and in that time I learned what a fantastic man he was. He lived a great life, loved his family, friends, and of course his cattle! 🐄

He was my real boss for 10–12 years—the head of the business, but such a funny bloke. Always ready with the banter, chatting up the women and taking the p**s, but he took no nonsense. Especially from me and Luke when we tried to slack off on the farm… which usually ended in us nearly getting a clip round the ear from Steve! 🤣

I want to say thank you to the Swales family for the honour of carrying Steve’s coffin today. It was a privilege to do so at such a beautiful service that truly reflected what a wonderful man Mr. Swales was.

I’ll miss our trips to the cattle shows—the Yorkshire Show and the English Winter Fair won’t be the same without you.

Rest in peace, mate. Thank you for all the advice you gave me, right to the end. My thoughts are with all the Swales family and everyone at Knavesmire Butchers.

We’ve lost a good one.
