It’s been a while since I’ve been proactive on my own channels. To be honest, 2025 was a bit of a "write-off" personally—dealing with unexpected family illnesses and losses, and a tough planning appeal battle for Kinsmen Activity Centre. Oh, and a "frozen shoulder" that’s thankfully now defrosted! 🥶

But looking back through the archives, I realized that even when things felt heavy, there were some incredible professional highlights happening in the background.

One of the absolute standouts? Working with the brilliant Roxy ( RH Mortgage & Financial Solutions ) as a Trustee for the Three Bears Foundation 🐻💜

I had the pleasure of managing the PR for their entry into the York Dragon Boat Race, to use social media to build awareness for the Three Bears Foundation. The race was a massive team effort in raising awareness through shares and for fundraising— and not only did we get the word out—the TBF team only went and flippin’ WON! 🏆

Having my partner on the crew made the victory even sweeter. 🙌💪

This first photo was a great in the moment capture - it showcases the amazing businesses that stepped up to sponsor the team - logos on the tops. It’s a reminder that even in a tough year, community and hard work always shine through. 🐻💜

Don’t Let a "Red Arrow" Fool You 📈

At Shout, we love a deep dive into the data. We recently shared these social media stats for the last 28 days with a client, and at first glance, that red 3.2% drop in "views from followers" might look like a slip.

It’s actually the exact opposite. Here is how we read the "real" story behind these stats:

1. The "Growth Dilution" Effect
Our client’s total views jumped to 178.4K (up 71.2%). Because we reached so many new people (non-followers), the percentage of followers naturally looks smaller by comparison.

2. Breaking the "Echo Chamber"
When 55.9% of your views come from non-followers, it means your content is working overtime. It’s breaking out of your existing circle and finding a fresh audience.

3. The Ultimate Proof: Conversion
The goal of reaching new people is to turn them into fans. Look at the "Follows" metric: Net follows are up 240.7%! By reaching more non-followers, we’ve accelerated the growth of the entire page - client profile.

A green spike can also be a negative - but again it depends on how you read it:

📈The Unfollow Spike: Unfollows are up 12%. A sceptic might say, "People are leaving!"

Growth always causes a 'clean out.' As we reach new audiences on this scale, people who no longer fit the profile audience naturally drop off. But look at the net gain—we’re gaining 120 and only losing 28. That’s a healthy, evolving community.

✅ The Shout Marketing Takeaway: Stats are only useful if you know how to read them. A dip in one area often signals a massive breakthrough in another. We don't just look at the colours; we look at the growth and the genuine impact on the business.

I never compare one client’s numbers to another—every business, audience, and market is unique. However, I do track the broader trends across industries to ensure we’re always staying ahead of the curve.

It is wonderful to see that my work (client home photography) is still used 3/4 years after I finished working with them (all amicable - new owner / new agency).

All photos except the first (which is a supplier image) I took for my social media /digital marketing work on their behalf, and for the Leger website I created (some elements have been added so don't judge me on them 😉).

However, I've also noticed any new kitchen and bathroom installation photos are possible being supplied to the agency by the team (which is fine), but not altered to a slightly more pro quality standard (which is not fine).

I do absolutely miss working with a Kitchen / Bathroom and Bedroom company, having also previously worked with Monks Cross Tiles and Bathrooms and Moonlight Bedrooms.
