We’re excited to send you our first update on your adopted HeroRAT, Tamasha, who is stepping into her role as a key player in the fight against tuberculosis (TB).
Tamasha is a friendly and curious African giant pouched rat with a lively personality, who quickly showed her aptitude in TB detection training. She is also a bit of a standout in her family. While she was born as an only pup, she trained alongside many half-siblings who share either her mother, Doreen, or her father, Finest. Her natural diligence and playful attitude quickly set her apart from the rest!
Lovely Tamasha has already begun making her mark in Morogoro, Tanzania, using her incredible sense of smell to identify TB cases that might otherwise go undetected. Last month Tamasha sniffed a total of 1,138 sputum samples with an accuracy of 85.67% and detected 23 new TB cases. Her work ensures that those individuals can access life-saving treatment sooner, reducing the spread of TB and improving community health outcomes.
