Which paperweight would you choose?

Paperweight pick - solely Strathearn Glass this time

Strathearn Glass, evolved from Ysart Brothers and Vasart, made a wide variety of paperweights between 1965 and 1980 in Crieff, Scotland. Often brash and quirky, always with that distinctive Strathearn style, they're my personal favourites.

To see more vintage and modern, beautiful and unusual glass paperweights please like, follow, share and visit my cabinet at The Antiques Centre York next time you're in the city. Thank you ❤️

How do you feel about Google Lens?

I see responses to i.d. requests in Facebook groups straight from Google Lens and other reverse image searches. It makes me wonder...

If the group member asking for help with i.d. is sophisticated enough to make a Facebook post, presumably they will already have accessed this information?

Glass collectors must know it's not accurate - at best a jumping off point from which to research. I chose this Frank Eisner style Moncrieff weight to see if I could bamboozle Google Lens and, predictably, it came up with Murano 😆 Also, "hand-blown"?!

Should groups include a ban on these sort of replies in the group rules?

What do you think? Frustrating or helpful?

Didn't she scrub up nicely?!

Vintage glass clean-up challenge!

Here's the update on that poor paperweight with the felt stuck to her bottom... She cleaned up nicely!

Now that I can see clearly, I'm thinking this is from the Ysart Brothers/Vasart (1946 - 1964). What do you think?

Ugh! Why did people stick felt to the bottom of their collectibles?

Sold as Murano but I'm thinking Ysart Brothers or Vasart... What do you think?

This beauty has a serious issue with that manky bit of aftermarket modification!

With my trusty sticky stuff remover I've managed to peel off some of the mess. I'm going to leave it to sit for a while to (hopefully) finish the job.

Will I get it all clean? Stay tuned for Part 2 ❤️

Did you find any car boot treasure today?

More often than not I leave the car boot sale empty handed. Not today! I found plenty of treasure!

Look at the crazy reflections in this glassart!

Cosmos, made by Peter Holmes, at Selkirk Glass, Scotland in 1983 is a brooding unusually cut piece that bears his "PH" signature cane in its base. It is one of just 50 made.

This just arrived and I couldn't wait to show it off! There are more pictures in the comments.

Do you have any space themed glass in your collection?

Who made this?

Here's a charming pin dish made by Ysart Brothers or Vasart, Scotland, some time between 1946 and 1964.

I adore this quirky piece because at first sight it appears a little clumsy and thrown together but, the more I look, the more detail and finesse I see.

My money's on it being an earlier piece, from the big bold canes. What do you think?
