Sea Moss Farmers to Explore New Opportunities at Round Table Discussion
The Grenada Sustainable Development Trust Fund (GSDTF), with financing support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) under the Climate-Resilient and Blue Economy (CRAB) Project, will host a round table discussion with sea moss farmers on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the VIP Room of the Kirani James National Stadium.
The initiative forms part of the CRAB Project’s objective to strengthen the sea moss industry across the Caribbean. According to the organisers, the project is designed to support farmers and local communities by providing small grants in countries including Saint Lucia, Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The funding will help farmers and groups adopt sustainable practices, improve market access, and increase the value of sea moss products, while promoting conservation and climate resilience.
The upcoming session will highlight opportunities for Grenadian farmers to access funding through the GSDTF for projects that advance sustainable farming, expand value-added product development, and support community empowerment. Priority will be given to initiatives involving women, youth, and marginalised groups.
Chief Executive Officer of the GSDTF, Jennifer James, stated, “Sea moss farming has immense potential not just as a livelihood, but as a driver of innovation, sustainability, and community transformation. This round table will ensure that farmers are fully engaged in developing solutions that benefit people, the environment, and the Grenadian economy.”
Through the consultation, farmers will also have the opportunity to share ideas, connect with peers, and gain guidance on proposal development and the application process for grant support.
The GSDTF is encouraging all sea moss farmers and sector stakeholders to participate in the session. Registration details are available online at https://forms.gle/cuZ1F9GeJsi2btvW8.
