๐Ÿ“™Greece is a country in southeastern Europe, known in Greek as Hellas or Ellada, and consisting of a mainland and an archipelago of islands. Ancient Greece is the birthplace of Western philosophy (Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle), literature (Homer and Hesiod), mathematics (Pythagoras and Euclid), history (Herodotus), drama (Sophocles, Euripides, and Aristophanes), the Olympic Games, and democracy.

The designation Hellas derives from Hellen, the son of Deucalion and Pyrrha who feature prominently in Ovid's tale of the Great Flood in his Metamorphoses. The mythical Deucalion (son of the fire-bringing titan Prometheus) was the savior of the human race from the Great Flood, in the same way Noah is presented in the biblical version or Utnapishtim in the Mesopotamian one.

๐ŸŽ„Wish You Happy 2023 New Year And Merry Christmas! ๐ŸŽ‡๐ŸŽ†

โ›„๏ธMiniature holiday scene in Strasbourg, France โ„

โ˜ƒ๏ธFor more than 400 years the city of Strasbourg, France, has transformed into a Christmas wonderland in December. Including displays such as this miniature village decorated for the holidays. Craftsmen and merchants sell ornaments and other gifts at Strasbourg's famous Christmas market. And there are plenty of satisfied customersโ€”over 2 million visitors flock to the city every year to take in the festive sights and sounds. An immense Christmas tree is erected and decorated in Place Klรฉber, the central square, and the scents, songs, and twinkling lights of Christmas fill the city. It's no wonder that Strasbourg proudly calls itself the 'Capital of Christmas.'

๐Ÿ”ธBack Tor on a foggy morning, Great Ridge, Derbyshire.
๐ŸŒซOn the edge. Back Tor, Peak District

๐Ÿ“™This wintry shot shows a cluster of trees huddling together as the fog rolls over the edge of Back Tor on the Great Ridge, one of the most popular walks in the Peak District. The ridge runs for nearly two miles from its highest point on Mam Tor, across Hollins Cross Hill and Back Tor to Lose Hill and divides the parkโ€™s limestone White Peak from the gritstone of the Dark Peak. Walking along it, above the villages of Castleton and Hope, walkers are treated to spectacular views across Edale and Hope Valley, if the fog lifts.

The Peak District was the UKโ€™s first national park, designated in 1951, and covers more than 555 sq miles of exceptionally beautiful landscape, including moors, dales, forests and market towns โ€“ people have lived and shaped the landscape here for 10,000 years. It rises above the surrounding lowlands and is split into three areas: the desolate moorland and steep, rocky gritstone slopes of the Dark Peak, the White Peak, with its gently rolling limestone uplands and dales, and the mosaic of moorland, pastures and farmland of the South West Peak. Itโ€™s also famous for its natural spring water and delicious Bakewell puddings โ€“ just the ticket after a long winter walk.

โ„๏ธA city so nice they made it twice. Hallstatt, Austria

๐Ÿ“™The salt mines in the hills surrounding the village of Hallstatt, Austria, are thought to be some of the oldest in the world. Salt was once the backbone of Hallstatt's economy. Today the mines have become a popular tourist attraction. This storybook village draws in masses of visitors, so many that it is considered an area of over-tourism. The town has sought to limit the number of people who can visit each day. Hallstatt's charms were so considerable that an identical recreation of the town was built in Guangdong, China in 2011. So, if they canโ€™t squeeze you into Hallstatt, perhaps you can pop over to Chinaโ€™s version.

๐Ÿ”ธTangle Creek Falls in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.

๐Ÿ“™Jasper National Park boasts numerous breathtaking waterfalls, but the multi-tiered cascade of Tangle Creek Falls makes for a must-see spectacle. Located off the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) in Alberta, the falls are easily accessed. Tangle Creek Falls' misty spray can be felt out on the highway itself. If you're looking to capture some breathtaking shots, it may be worth getting off the highway and going closer to the falls to truly soak in its beauty.

๐Ÿ“™An experiment in sustainability. International Day for Biosphere Reserves
UNESCO designated November 3, 2022, the first annual International Day for Biosphere Reserves. Biosphere reserves are vast areas around the world used to promote biodiversity, cultural diversity, environmentally sustainable economic development, and research and education on how humans can coexist with nature.

The Amboseli Biosphere Reserve, which we feature today, is located on the Kenyan side of Mount Kilimanjaro and includes an amazing variety of ecological zones, including dry mountain forests, mountains, savannah rangelands, wetlands, and swamps. Elephants, lions, and giraffes make their home in the Amboseli. Designated a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 1980, Amboseli was a focus of a UN-sponsored program to ensure the long-term conservation of biodiversity in the area, partly by involving the local population in sustainable use.
