⛓️ Slavery is perhaps one of the oldest profit-making endeavors in human history, and the Irish were a special target for a thousand years.

🇮🇪 The narrative claims Irish were merely “indentured servants.” The historical reality tells a different story.

📌 In 1603, King James I issued the Order of Banishment. By 1612, the first recorded Irish slaves were sold to the Portuguese and taken to the Amazon River Basin. Tens of thousands followed sent to Eastern American colonies, Guyana, Antigua, and Montserrat.

📌 By 1637, approximately 69% of Montserrat’s population was Irish. Many were indentured servants, yet some were slaves. The rationale was simple: Black slaves cost 20-50 pounds sterling, while Irish slaves were traded for 900 pounds of cotton per person or to***co and indigo in straight barter.

📌 The Irish became the largest source of slaves for English traders and plantation owners at that time, far surpassing the African slave trade until the early to mid-1700s.

📌 Between 1641-1652, over 550,000 Irish were killed by English forces, and 300,000 more were sold as slaves mostly military-aged men. Their children, especially women and girls, were sold and considered valuable in domestic service.
