Government Will Soon Ban Ante Naa’s Show & Sompa Nkomo – Sam George Hints
The Minister for Communications, Hon. Sam George, has hinted at government’s intention to clamp down on some popular television and radio social programs, including Ante Naa’s show on Oyerepa TV and Sompa Nkomo.
In a recent address, the minister revealed that the move forms part of efforts to regulate the media landscape and protect the public from what he described as “the harmful effects” of certain content.
“Government will soon ban Ante Naa’s show and Sompa Nkomo,” Sam George declared, stressing that while such programs may offer platforms for people to air their grievances, their unintended consequences outweigh their benefits.
The minister explained that some of these social programs, though initially designed to serve as avenues for problem-solving, have rather become grounds for sensationalism, public shaming, and exploitation of vulnerable individuals. According to him, this growing trend undermines social cohesion and threatens the dignity of those who appear on the shows.
The announcement comes at a time when Sam George has been leading a strong campaign against DSTV over the recent hike in subscription fees, positioning himself as a vocal advocate for fair media practices. His comments, however, suggest that government’s concern extends beyond international broadcasters to local media content that attracts massive audiences.
For many Ghanaians, Ante Naa’s show and Sompa Nkomo have become household names, often trending for their raw, emotional, and sometimes controversial approach to addressing family, relationship, and social disputes. While supporters argue that the shows provide ordinary people with a voice, critics insist that the broadcasts sometimes cross ethical lines by exposing private matters to public ridicule.
