In Ghana's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),"co-payment" refers to the illegal practice of charging members out-of-pocket fees for services and medicines already covered by the scheme.This is a persistent problem practiced by some service providers.

Therefore,the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA),led by it's current CEO, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe are actively working to eliminate these co-payment in order to protect members of the scheme from financial burdens and also build confidence in the scheme.
