I do not believe that the GREATEST challenge confronting US (Ghanaians)
Honorable Dr Zenator Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korle Constituency reveals during the 34th anniversary celebration of the National Democratic Congress.
Details:
As we marked the 34th Anniversary of the National Democratic Congress with a flag-raising ceremony, I found myself reflecting on the journey that gave birth to our Fourth Republic and the democratic order we enjoy today.
The 1992 Constitution was not simply drafted by academics, lawyers, or politicians. It was shaped through engagement with ordinary Ghanaians whose voices, experiences, hopes, and aspirations informed the framework of governance that continues to guide our nation. It was intended to be a living document that reflected our collective desire for democracy, accountability, justice, and national development.
My father, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, believed strongly that governance must remain rooted in the interests of the people. He consistently championed probity, accountability, citizen participation, and responsible leadership, not as slogans, but as principles that should guide public service. More than three decades later, I do not believe that the greatest challenge confronting us is the constitution itself. The greater challenge lies in how we interpret it, and whether we are willing to align our conduct with the principles of good governance upon which it was founded.
As we celebrate this milestone, may we recommit ourselves to building a Ghana where integrity, accountability, service, and respect for the will of the people remain at the heart of our democracy.
