Editor-in-Chief of JB News Ghana , Adam Alhaj Jabril , has expressed concern over what he describes as the increasing attraction of politics among professionals in Ghana, warning that the trend could have serious consequences for the country's future.
In a Facebook post, Jabril said his "heart is bleeding" for Ghana, stressing that his comments were not intended to blame anyone but to encourage national reflection on the direction the country is taking.
According to him, politics is increasingly being perceived as the fastest route to wealth and influence, leading many professionals to abandon or sideline their primary careers in pursuit of political office.
He noted that teachers, business people and professionals from various sectors are becoming actively involved in politics, adding that even religious leaders, including pastors and Imams, as well as some traditional leaders, have not been left out.
Jabril used a vivid analogy to describe the growing attraction to politics, saying it appears to attract people "like a naked woman standing before a potent man," suggesting that many find it difficult to resist.
He also expressed concern about the role of journalists, stating that while there is nothing wrong with having political beliefs, media practitioners must know when to speak as independent professionals and when to express personal opinions.
"If journalists lose their professional independence, public trust in the media will suffer," he suggested.
Jabril warned that if the current trend continues unchecked, Ghana could reach a point where almost everyone aspires to become a politician while essential professions are neglected.
He concluded by expressing hope that such a future never materialises, cautioning that if it does, Ghana would be the ultimate loser.
