π Reflecting on Insights from "The Phoenix Project" ππ‘
- "Even if you don't believe in yourself, go for it" - Emmanuel Otchere Somuah
Throughout my Software Project Management Class this semester, we've been examining the invaluable lessons of "The Phoenix Project" by Gene Kim, Kevin Behr & George. Spafford.
Yesterday, my team and I had the privilege of presenting on Chapters 16-18, analyzing the storyline, challenges, solutions, and resources of computing and management concepts explored in this compelling novel.
Here are some key insights I'd love to share:
π Vulnerability Empowers Leadership: Embracing vulnerability and transparency with your team is a source of true power.
π» Investing in IT: Recognize that IT is integral to every aspect of business. Allocating resources and budget accordingly is crucial for success.
π€ Team Trust and Dynamics: The foundation of success lies in fostering trust and effective teamwork.
π Strategic Leadership in IT: Leadership in the IT sector demands a strategic approach and forward-thinking vision.
π£οΈ The Power of Communication: Good communication is the lifeline of any project. No matter how brilliant the idea, poor communication can derail even the best-laid plans.
π€ Embrace Reflection: It's okay not to have all the answers. Taking time to reflect on decisions allows for growth and learning.
I end with a quote that Steve recalled from Erik while addressing the leadership team during the off-site meeting:
"We have big problems in front of us that we need to fix. Erik is right. IT is not just a department. IT is a competency that we need to gain as an entire company. And I know that if we can reforge ourselves into a great team, where we can all trust one another, we can succeed." - Chapter 18, Phoenix Project
Think about these nuggets...
And yeah, I rocked my African print shirt for the presentation. Remember it's the so don't forget to represent our culture anywhere in the world. π
