A WALK OF FAITH
NT Owulaku Devotional Notes
Wednesday June 21, 2023
Having increased your faith in the previous episode, a walk in it, should be your next project.
Genesis 28:20 &21 “Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear, so that I return safely to my father's household, then the Lord will be my God.”
On his journey to Paddan Aram after taking his brother’s blessing, to live with his uncle and marry there, a story for another day, Jacob on his journey had an encounter with an angel at a place he called Bethel meaning ‘House of God’ and made the vow above. Though a crafty man, his foundation or upbringing was nothing short of faith in the Almighty God.
His life is an evident that, God is not looking for self made perfect people but imperfect ones that would humble themselves as clay in the hands of the potter to mold them into what he deemed fit for purpose.
Jacob was covenanted or promised to be greater than the brother Esau. Genesis 25:23 “The Lord said to her, "Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger." And so receiving the father blessings instead of Esau was inevitable but that didn’t come easy.
Therefore Jacob, while in wilderness knew the journey could only be a success with the Lord at the center of it and so the vow. The big question is, who is at the center of your journey, your savings, strategy, parents, friends or God. All else could fail you but God.
My dear friend, Jacob like his paternal grandfather then Abram who later became Abraham, took a walk of faith and it was worth the journey.
According to Genesis 12:1&2; “The Lord had said to Abram, "Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you. "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. Or [be seen as blessed].” And Abram heed this instructions and was rewarded for his faith. Today, like Abraham and Jacob, let’s your journey be one founded on faith also and not on sight Amen.
