in 1880, Abiasuma Nii Tackie Tawiah I was transported into exile to Elmina by a gunboat.

His crime was his steadfast refusal to collaborate with the British during their attempt to invade the Ashanti kingdom under Asantehene Mensa Bonsu to claim the Golden Stool..

This principled stance earned him the epithet "uncooperative King" as labeled by British Colonial Governor Sir Frederick Hodgson.

He was released on March 10, 1883 and welcomed with a grand procession in Ga Mashie (Accra Central), resuming his reign with undiminished authority.

Long live King Tackie Tawiah I.
