Today, The Asantehene's regalia is a full representation of the Oyoko clan.

A falcon, whose feathers have been used to weave his headgear—adorns his attire, with the falcon's head symbolizing that the Asantehene is the chief mourner and head of the Oyoko Abusua in mourning today.

Asanteman (the Ashanti Kingdom) carries a powerful and deeply rooted cultural aura. 😌🔥

From the regal splendor of the Golden Stool (Sika Dwa Kofi) to the elegance of Kente cloth, and the rhythm of the Fontomfrom drums, the whole identity of Asanteman radiates royalty, pride, and tradition.

The respect for chieftaincy, the symbolism in their adinkra designs, and the rich oral history all add to that magnetic cultural presence. You feel it in the way they speak Twi with pride, the grace of the traditional dances, and the grand durbars that showcase unity and strength.

No lie — Asanteman doesn’t just have culture; it commands it. 🦅👑

The Asantehene’s headgear is called “Nyɛ Apɛsɛ tipɛn ne Kotoko Nsɛbɛkyɛ” (The hedgehog may resemble the Porcupine, but only the porcupine commands fear).

It was made with the quills of the porcupine (Kotoko mɛtɛɛ). In Akan proverbial wisdom, it is said: “Kotoko ho huu ne ne mɛtɛɛ”, meaning, “the porcupine derives its fearsome nature from its quills.” This symbolizes the awe and dread surrounding the King, even in moments of grief, and portrays Him as one locked in battle with death itself. ‘Ɔne owuo edi ako, sɛ wafa onuabaa korɔ”.

In parallel, players of Asante Kotoko SC are often referred to as Mmɛtɛɛ-mma (offspring of the quills). The imagery likens them to the porcupine in combat stance, with quills erect, ready to confront any adversary with resilience and determination on the field.

Piawwwwwwwww Kotokohene!
