You ever watch an American movie where the police pull a fingerprint from a crime scene, run it through a central system, and boom—the suspect is found in seconds?
Or the hospital scenes where a doctor scans a unconscious patient’s fingerprint or enters their name, and instantly, all the person’s medical history shows up, no need for back and forth and it save the stress of this patient didn’t have a file in this hospital.
And as a developer, you’re sitting there thinking, “This isn’t magic. I can actually build something like this!”
Something that would make our hospitals smarter, our security tighter, our systems better.
But then you remember—you’re in this part of the world where it is almost impossible.
It’s not impossible because you lack the skill.
It’s impossible because of the system.
Accessing citizen data? Central records? Biometrics? Forget it.
The data? private access.
No open API. No way to build on top of it. Everything is behind a wall.
We need to start rethinking how we approach digital growth in Ghana 🇬🇭 .
Innovation thrives in openness.
Let developers build. Let ideas scale.
We don’t lack talent—we lack access.
