Some sporting moments deserve more than a scoreline.

Today in Cincinnati, Frances Tiafoe and Arthur Fils will become the first two Black men to face each other in an ATP Masters 1000 final.

To understand why that matters, you have to understand the level. Masters 1000 tournaments sit just below the Grand Slams in men’s tennis. They are among the most prestigious events on the ATP Tour — the stages where the very best in the world compete.

And yet, in the history of this level of the sport, we have never seen this.

Two Black men. Opposite sides of the net. Both there because they earned their place.

For our community, representation is not simply about seeing a Black face in a campaign. It is about seeing Black excellence at the highest levels of competition, ownership, leadership and achievement — until moments like this are no longer considered unusual.

There will be a winner today, but there is something powerful about the fact that before a ball is even struck, history has already been made.

Somewhere, a young Black boy who loves tennis gets to watch this final and understand that this stage belongs to him too.

That matters.

We posted about Black Tax earlier this year, and we felt it was time to revisit the conversation.

It’s a topic we believe our community needs to keep talking about — not simply to highlight the pressures that can come with supporting family, but to share practical ways we can navigate them.

For many Black Caribbean and African families, supporting parents, siblings and extended family is an expression of love, responsibility and community. But generosity should also be sustainable.

Set boundaries around what you can comfortably give. Where possible, consider whether your support can help someone build greater financial independence rather than only solving an immediate expense.

And importantly, while supporting others, continue contributing to your own savings, emergency fund, pension, investments and appropriate financial protection.

The goal isn’t to stop helping our families. It’s to make sure we’re building ourselves while we do.

You are part of the family you’re trying to protect. Your future matters too.

How are you navigating Black Tax?

For general educational purposes only. This is not financial advice.

This has been heavy on my heart.

We all saw what happened in the media, and I only wish we could have reached out. No one deserves to feel that they are facing the weight of the world alone.

The EATO community is lost for words.

Jason Arday’s brilliance, courage and contribution touched so many people. His work challenged systems, opened doors and inspired a generation — and that legacy will live on.

We encourage everyone in our community: when life becomes overwhelming, when you are under immense stress or pressure, please reach out to someone you trust and seek support. You do not have to carry everything alone.

Our thoughts are with Jason’s family, friends, colleagues and everyone whose life he touched.

Rest in peace, Jason. 🕊️
