ACCRA, April 20, 2026 — The Management of the Ghana Education Service has officially announced a structured payment schedule to clear salary arrears for eligible staff members.

In a letter dated April 20, 2026, signed by Smile Dzisi (Mrs.), Acting Deputy Director-General (MS), the GES confirmed that the Ministry of Finance has granted approval for the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to commence payments.

The Payment Schedule

The arrears, which cover the period from August 1, 2024, to November 2025, will be paid in five (5) instalments. According to the directive, staff members will receive four months of arrears each month starting in May 2026.

S/N Payment Month Number of Months’ Arrears

1 May 4 months
2 June 4 months
3 July 4 months
4 August 4 months
5 September 4 months

Key Details of the Approval

The approval follows a reference to a previous communication from the Ministry of Finance (BO/CPMU/MoE/2024/FC. Arrears/26/04). This financial clearance is specifically associated with the 2024 Financial Clearance for GES.

This development is expected to provide significant relief to thousands of teachers and non-teaching staff who have been awaiting the settlement of these outstanding earnings.
