I just found out that if your money ever gets burnt, you don’t actually lose it.
When it happens, stay calm. Pick up the damaged notes carefully, don’t try to separate them, and keep them in an envelope or plastic bag. Then take them to your bank, preferably the Bank of Ghana, not a microfinance, susu, or insurance office.
The bank will check the notes for their serial numbers and security features. If they’re genuine and more than half of each note is still intact, you’ll get the same amount back.
In some cases, other banks might forward the damaged notes to the Bank of Ghana for confirmation before replacement.
Once approved, your money goes right back into the system like it never burned at all.
