My Husband attacked me for refusing him s*x – Wife in viral assault video

The wife of John Odartey Lamptey—the man seen in a viral video assaulting her at Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region—has given a chilling account of the attack, alleging he assaulted and violated her after she refused to have s*x with him for nearly five months.

According to the victim, their marriage had deteriorated, and she had moved out of the matrimonial home five months earlier due to repeated physical abuse.

She said Lamptey lured her back to the house on Saturday under the pretext that their two-year-old child was seriously ill.
“I was at a funeral when he called to say our lastborn was not feeling well. I rushed home, only to find the children playing. When I asked, he said he told the lie because he wanted to have s*x with me,” she recounted.

She told him she would return to her village the next morning since he had deceived her into coming. This angered him, and he accused her of disrespecting him and making excuses whenever he contacted her.
“He told me he had trapped me to kill me,” she said.

The victim narrated that Lamptey then instructed another child, Daniel, to take the children outside. Once they stepped out, he locked the door and violently attacked her.

“He tore my dress and my undershorts, saying he bought them. He even tore the beads around my waist, leaving me naked. He beat me with the metal rod from a standing broom and stepped on me. At one point, he picked up a knife and threatened to cut off my hand,” she said.

She added that she screamed for help, and a man known as Oketeku intervened briefly, managing to sn**ch the knife from Lamptey. However, Lamptey allegedly forced him out and continued the assault, smearing pepper between her thighs and private parts before forcibly having s*x with her.

The victim said this was not the first time she had suffered abuse, explaining that she had previously reported him to the Tesano and Ofankor Police Stations several times, providing evidence, but no action was taken. The couple has two children, aged five and two.

ECOWAS Court rejects Torkonoo’s request to stop probe committee

The ECOWAS Court of Justice has dismissed former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo’s application seeking temporary prohibition orders to halt the work of the committee that investigated her removal from office.

The Court also rejected a preliminary objection from the Government of Ghana, which argued that the regional court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

Justice Torkonoo applied after the President constituted a committee chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang to inquire into matters that eventually led to her removal and the swearing-in of her successor, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

In its ruling on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the ECOWAS Court held that although the former Chief Justice had established a prima facie case alleging human rights violations, she failed to demonstrate the urgency required for the Court to issue temporary orders stopping the committee’s proceedings.

The judges noted that despite being suspended on April 22, 2025, and fully aware of the ongoing processes, she waited three months before filing her motion—undermining her own claims of imminent or irreparable harm.

Mahama: Forensic Audit will determine future of National Cathedral

President John Dramani Mahama says his administration is awaiting the outcome of a forensic audit into the National Cathedral project before determining the way forward, stressing the need for transparency, national consultation, and a realistic cost structure.

This followed a courtesy call by the Christian Council at the Jubilee House, where the Council urged the government to renew its commitment to completing the cathedral under a more accountable and inclusive framework.

The Council, led by Vice Chairman Rev. Enoch Thompson, acknowledged Ghana’s current economic challenges but maintained that a properly managed cathedral project could become a lasting spiritual and cultural landmark.

The delegation proposed three recommendations: that the government reaffirm its commitment to the project, that funding be broadened to include churches, private sector players, and international partners, and that the cathedral be firmly positioned as an interdenominational national symbol that unites Ghanaians.

Cathedral’s Board of Trustees had already commissioned and published a regular audit, the findings raised enough concerns to warrant a deeper, independent investigation.

“There are two kinds of audits. There is a normal audit where you choose your auditor. Then there is a forensic audit. We got a copy of the first audit, and as President I directed that a forensic audit be conducted.

El-Wak stampede: 3 removed from ICU, 16 still on admission – GAF

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has provided a new update on victims of last Wednesday’s stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, revealing significant progress in the condition of those who were critically injured.

The incident, recorded during the military recruitment exercise, has so far claimed six lives.

Providing the latest details, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of the Department of Public Relations of the GAF, revealed that three out of the five patients initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) have improved and have since been transferred to another ward.

In an Interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, November 17, Captain Arhin explained that a total of 29 victims were brought to the hospital on the day of the incident, and medical teams have been working around the clock to stabilise them just to avoid further death.

“The injured are doing well, they are at the hospital, and they are receiving the best of care. On the day of the incident, we had five people in the ICU. As we speak, three of them are doing well and they have been moved to another ward,” she said.

She further disclosed that while some of the injured have been treated and discharged, 16 individuals remain on admission, receiving continuous care and monitoring.

Man In Viral Assault Video Arrested At Ofankor

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral Facebook video assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.

The suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, was arrested on Monday, November 17, 2025, at his residence after the video drew strong public reactions online.

A statement from the CID, signed by the Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, said two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also taken into custody. They allegedly tried to attack a female tenant they believed had filmed and shared the video. Police officers stepped in quickly to protect the tenant.

The Police stated that the woman who was assaulted had left the house before their arrival, and efforts are ongoing to locate her and ensure her safety.

The statement stressed that the Ghana Police Service remains committed to fighting domestic violence and bringing perpetrators to justice. It also encouraged the public to report any incidents of abuse as soon as they occur.

The Police further noted that all correspondence about the case should reference CID/PAU/VOL.4/08 and the date, 18th November 2025.

Strengthen integrity within the judiciary—Mahama tells Baffoe-Bonnie

President John Dramani Mahama has urged the new Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, to prioritise integrity within Ghana’s judiciary as he assumes the country’s highest judicial office.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony at the Presidency on Monday, November 17, President Mahama reflected on public trust in institutions, saying, “In recent years, public institutions worldwide and in our own country have been questioned, scrutinised and sometimes criticised. Our people want the institutions that work, but they also demand institutions that they can trust.”

He highlighted the crucial role of the judiciary, noting that “The judiciary in particular must be above reproach. One single act of corruption by a judicial officer can undermine years of hard work and erode public confidence in the entire system.”

I’ll bring ‘Abrokyire’ to Ghana if you elect me President – Bawumia

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says he has the track record and ideas needed to transform Ghana, promising that if elected president, he will make living conditions in Ghana comparable to those abroad — what he described as bringing “Abrokyire” to Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted what he considers major achievements under his leadership as Vice President, particularly in the area of digital transformation.

“We issued the Ghana Card, and today Ghana is one of the few countries in the world with this type of digital national ID,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia also pointed to reforms in the mobile money ecosystem. He explained that previously, mobile money transfers could not be made across networks and could not be linked to bank accounts. “I said it was possible for us to do it in Ghana, and we have done it,” he stated.

According to him, the expansion of mobile money services has created a surge in employment. “When we came, the MoMo agents were 107,000. Now they are 900,000. We have created 800,000 jobs for MoMo agents,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia urged Ghanaians to judge him by the results he has delivered as Vice President, arguing that innovative ideas — not money — are what transform nations.

“You have seen what I can do as Vice President without the power. If you make me president with the power, I will bring ‘Abrokyire’ to Ghana here,” he declared.

Police, Prisons, Immigration, GNFS Recruitment To Go Paperless – Muntaka

Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has announced a full digitisation of the recruitment process for the Prisons, Immigration, Police and Fire Service.

This follows Thursday’s Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) deadly stampede at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra. Speaking to journalists on Friday, November 14, the Minister said the new system will eliminate manual queues and replace them with a fully online application platform to prevent future tragedies.

“Our hope is to have a seamless process. Everything will be moved from paper to paperless. You can start the process and finish with your mobile phone from the comfort of your home with the code which will be published on Sunday, November 16. The process we’re developing is a robust, centralised e-recruitment portal to ensure harmonisation,” he assured.

The El-Wak incident left 28 people affected, with 12 in critical condition, five in the intensive care unit, and six confirmed dead. In a related development, five others were injured during a similar recruitment exercise in Kumasi.

Mr Muntaka Mubarak said the shift to an online-friendly, end-to-end digital system is expected to drastically reduce congestion and improve the safety and efficiency of national recruitment exercises.

Mahama Will Comply If Supreme Court Rules In Torkornoo’s Favour – Ayine

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has assured Parliament that President John Dramani Mahama will fully respect any ruling by the courts regarding the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

Speaking on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Dr. Ayine dismissed Minority claims that the appointment of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice could lead to legal complications.

“The Minority, with all the experienced lawyers that they have, including the Minority Leader himself, should know that if the Supreme Court comes up with its decision saying that the process of the removal of the Chief Justice was without legal grounds, the President will have no option but to obey the order of the court,” he added.

The Minority caucus on Monday, November 11, 2025, opted out of the vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, citing ongoing legal challenges to the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo pending before the Supreme Court, High Court, and ECOWAS Court.

The Minority warned that moving forward with the appointment while these cases remain unresolved could trigger a constitutional crisis should the courts rule in favour of the former Chief Justice.

However, Dr. Dominic Ayine rejected claims of impropriety, affirming that the appointment process had been conducted fully within the bounds of the law.

Parliament approves Baffoe-Bonnie as Ghana’s Chief Justice

Parliament has approved the nomination of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as the new Chief Justice of Ghana, following a heated vetting and debate on the Appointments Committee’s report.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s vetting on Monday, November 10, was marked by a dramatic walkout from Minority Members of Parliament, who rejected his nomination.

The Minority cited ongoing court cases challenging the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo as grounds for their boycott, describing the process as unconstitutional and politically motivated.

Despite their objections, the Majority side proceeded with the approval process. On Thursday, November 13, Parliament adopted the Appointments Committee’s report by majority decision, officially endorsing Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as the next Chief Justice.

Presenting the Committee’s report, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, said Paul Baffoe-Bonnie had demonstrated exceptional competence and integrity, making him deserving of the position.

The minority, however, rejected the voice vote and demanded a head count which ended with Majority recording 169 members while the Minority recorded 63 members.
