Today, I had the heartbreaking opportunity to walk through what remains of homes destroyed by the relentless tidal waves at Akplabanya. What I witnessed was not just the loss of buildings, but the destruction of memories, dreams, and livelihoods.
Families who once lived comfortably now stare at the ruins of homes they spent years building. Children's laughter has been replaced by uncertainty, while parents struggle to find hope amid the devastation. Walls that once provided shelter have been swallowed by the sea, leaving many residents vulnerable and displaced.
Standing among the wreckage, it became painfully clear that this is not merely an environmental issue, it is a humanitarian crisis unfolding before our eyes. Every wave that crashes onto the shore threatens another home, another family, and another future.
The people of Akplabanya cannot continue to fight the sea alone. Their cries for a sea defence system are not demands for luxury; they are pleas for survival. Urgent action is needed to protect lives, preserve communities, and restore hope to those who have lost so much.
Akplabanya deserves protection. Akplabanya deserves hope. The time for a sea defence project is now.
