If I understand the coach philosophy and tactics he employed yesterday, in his mind he was playing 4-3-3, but in actual sense Ghana was playing 5-3-2 (and relying on counter)
A 4-3-3 formation is such that, you must have your lateral defenders being able to overlap, join the attack and return on time when we lose the ball.
Unfortunately, we don’t have such quality of lateral defenders (left and right back) who are capable of doing such runs and return to the formation regularly- so they were always many times in the defense their natural position (turning the team to play 5 defenders) making our upfront looks empty with no sense of urgency hence the game was always being played in our half putting pressure on our midfield. We were numerically disadvantage upfont with that format.
Again, you will need a good creative, skillful with speed attacking midfielders who can hold up the balls to wait for the players to join in such formation. We didn’t have enough of that, Kudus was doing that, but Jordan isn’t too strong 💪 enough now for that formation.
Such formation also demands you must have good wingers who are skillful and can run and take on opponent players . This is why i would prefer to start guys like say, Painstil, Christopher Baah Bonsu or Kamaldeen, to use their skills and speed to outwit the opponents.
Anytime he plans of playing such format he should be serious and watch how he select the players. Else he should just play our usual 4-4-2 formation style. Where the players are familiar with.
And he should vary his tactics and have plan B always. Otto Addo lacks plan B and how to vary his game during when the game get tough. One of his biggest deficiencies.
For me I don’t think we have a good coach who can take us to the World Cup and be impactful. I think that, when we qualify to the World Cup he shouldn’t be the one to take us to the tournament if we want to get to the top
