ASUSTEM Robotics Hosts STEM Expo and Graduation Ceremony at Achimota Mile 7 Astro Turf
ASUSTEM Robotics held its annual STEM Expo and Graduation Ceremony at the Achimota Mile 7 Astro Turf, bringing together students, educators, and families to celebrate creativity, innovation, and achievements in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).The event featured hands-on exhibitions, projects developed by students under the guidance of the ASUSTEM Robotics Academy, with a focus on problem-solving, teamwork, and practical learning.
Mavis Achiaa Amoah, in charge of operations, emphasized the inclusive nature of the organization, explaining that ASUSTEM creates opportunities for all children, including those with special needs, to learn and excel. "By the time they reach tertiary education, they will be prepared to pursue science and technology courses, contributing to a better future for the nation," she said.
Since its founding in 2018, ASUSTEM has redefined STEM education by nurturing young talent and gaining national recognition through competitions. In 2020, the academy won awards such as the Best Student Award and Best Teacher Award, solidifying its reputation locally and internationally. The academy also spearheads several initiatives, including a robotics program for girls and workshops for youth aged 15 and above.
The highlight of the day was the graduation of students from ASUSTEM Robotics Academy, marking the culmination of months of rigorous training in robotics, programming, and engineering. The graduates, referred to as "SuperBrains," were awarded certificates for their accomplishments, along with special honors recognizing exceptional talent such as Future Innovator Award,Young Engineer Award,Tech Master Award, Scientific Curiosity Award, Math Genius Award,
Creative Coder Award and many more.
David Asumadu-Boateng, founder and CEO of ASUSTEM Robotics, noted that ASUSTEM Robotics has grown from a small initiative in 2018 to a nationally recognized academy with multiple awards. These accolades include the Best Student Award and Best Teacher Award in 2020, and a nomination for the 2023 CR Awards. The academy’s success reflects a deep commitment to empowering young minds through STEM education.
However, Asumadu-Boateng acknowledged the financial challenges involved in sustaining the academy’s programs. "Fifty percent of our students are on scholarships, and maintaining the robotics kits we use is costly " He appealed to parents, corporate organizations, and well-wishers to contribute towards the academy’s efforts.
The expo provided a platform for students to display the fruits of their learning. Attendees were treated to an impressive exhibition featuring a variety of student projects in robotics, technology, computer programming, and arts. Teachers and students gave live demonstrations, explaining the ideas and processes behind their work.
Students also demonstrated their projects to attendees, explaining the processes behind their innovations.
The exhibition also underscored ASUSTEM’s emphasis on practical education, equipping students with problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork—key attributes for success in the 21st-century workforce.
