ACCOUNTABILITY MATTERS: HOW WERE THE BLACK STARS' WORLD CUP FUNDS UTILIZED?

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, FIFA announced a minimum of US$12.5 million for every participating national association—comprising US$2.5 million for preparation and US$10 million as participation funding.

In addition, the Government of Ghana announced GH¢150 million for the Black Stars' World Cup campaign, with GH¢58.9 million reportedly released ahead of the tournament for preparations.

As both FIFA funds and public funds were committed to Ghana's World Cup campaign, there is growing public interest in understanding how these resources were utilized.

Questions worth asking:

What specific expenses were covered by FIFA's funding?

What was the Government of Ghana's GH¢150 million used for?

Will the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation publish a detailed financial breakdown of both sources of funding?

Transparency and accountability are essential whenever public resources are invested.

Do you think the public deserves a full breakdown of how both FIFA and Government funds were spent on Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign?

2026 MID-YEAR BUDGET REVIEW: NO MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GHANA'S ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

The 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, focused on key economic issues including inflation, government revenue and expenditure, debt management, fiscal performance, and the IMF programme.

However, the review did not include any major new policy announcement, funding initiative, or dedicated allocation for Ghana's entertainment and creative arts sector.

The absence of a significant mention has sparked discussions about the level of attention being given to an industry that continues to create jobs, promote Ghanaian culture, and contribute to the country's economy.

While a mid-year budget review is primarily intended to assess the implementation of the national budget rather than introduce a full range of new programmes, some stakeholders may still have hoped for updates or targeted measures affecting the creative sector.

What do you think?

Should Ghana's entertainment and creative arts industry have received a dedicated mention or policy update in the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review?

Police Arrest Akofena and Two Others Over Sarah Adwoa Safo Shooting Incident

The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, which occurred at Kwabenya on June 21, 2026.
According to the Police, Akofena voluntarily reported to the Regional Police Headquarters on June 22 and was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police further disclosed that a search conducted on Akofena's vehicle and residence at Kwabenya led to the retrieval of 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, multiple loaded magazines, and two G***k pistols, one of which is registered in his name.
The latest development comes a day after Police arrested six private security guards and recovered several fi****ms allegedly linked to the incident.
Investigations have also resulted in the arrest of Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, bringing the total number of suspects currently in Police custody to nine.
This follows conflicting accounts surrounding the incident. While the Ghana Police Service's preliminary findings indicate that armed security personnel allegedly discharged fi****ms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries to Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Kristo Asafo Mission has maintained that the former MP damaged the entrance gates of a private residence and has challenged some of the claims surrounding the shooting.
Videos circulating on social media have since shown a tense standoff at the residence, including armed men at the scene and visible damage to the property's entrance gate, further fueling public debate over the circumstances that led to the incident.
All suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on June 23, 2026, as investigations continue.
Tip Off TV will continue to monitor the case and provide verified updates as they become available.

TIP OFF TV | NEWS UPDATE

Police Arrest Six Security Guards as Conflicting Accounts Emerge Over Sarah Adwoa Safo Incident

The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo at Kwabenya on June 21, 2026.

According to a police statement, preliminary investigations indicate that armed security personnel stationed at a private residence allegedly discharged fi****ms during the incident, resulting in injuries to Sarah Adwoa Safo. Police further revealed that a search operation led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, a Ta**us pistol, ammunition, and other exhibits. The suspects and exhibits have since been transferred to Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the Kristo Asafo Mission has issued a separate statement disputing aspects of the incident. The church maintains that Sarah Adwoa Safo was denied access to a private residence where a ceremony was being held and alleges that she subsequently caused damage to the property's entrance gates. The church has also questioned reports surrounding the alleged shooting and called for an impartial investigation into the matter.

Adding another dimension to the controversy, videos circulating on social media appear to show a heated confrontation at the residence. The footage captures visible damage to a large entrance gate and armed security personnel at the premises. In one of the videos, individuals believed to be security operatives are seen carrying fi****ms during the tense exchange.

While the videos have fueled public debate, Tip Off TV cannot independently verify all claims being made online regarding how the gate was damaged or the sequence of events leading to the confrontation.

The incident continues to generate widespread public interest as authorities work to establish the full facts. Police investigations remain ongoing, with efforts underway to identify and arrest other persons connected to the case.

Tip Off TV will continue to follow developments and provide verified updates as they emerge.
