Police Arrest Akofena and Two Others Over Sarah Adwoa Safo Shooting Incident
The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Akofena, in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, which occurred at Kwabenya on June 21, 2026.
According to the Police, Akofena voluntarily reported to the Regional Police Headquarters on June 22 and was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police further disclosed that a search conducted on Akofena's vehicle and residence at Kwabenya led to the retrieval of 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, multiple loaded magazines, and two G***k pistols, one of which is registered in his name.
The latest development comes a day after Police arrested six private security guards and recovered several fi****ms allegedly linked to the incident.
Investigations have also resulted in the arrest of Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, bringing the total number of suspects currently in Police custody to nine.
This follows conflicting accounts surrounding the incident. While the Ghana Police Service's preliminary findings indicate that armed security personnel allegedly discharged fi****ms during the confrontation, resulting in injuries to Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Kristo Asafo Mission has maintained that the former MP damaged the entrance gates of a private residence and has challenged some of the claims surrounding the shooting.
Videos circulating on social media have since shown a tense standoff at the residence, including armed men at the scene and visible damage to the property's entrance gate, further fueling public debate over the circumstances that led to the incident.
All suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on June 23, 2026, as investigations continue.
Tip Off TV will continue to monitor the case and provide verified updates as they become available.
