The collaboration extends a creative relationship that has already produced music together. Ywaya Tajiri previously contributed lyrics and songwriting to Bensoul’s “Send It” and “Kesha,” both featured on his second studio album, The Party & The After Party. Their latest meeting finds the two artists taking that chemistry into a more intimate space.

Produced by MP Jazbeatz, “Mariwana” begins with an understated acoustic guitar before gradually opening into a bass-heavy groove driven by percussion and electronic drums. Bensoul and Ywaya move naturally between English and Swahili, giving the song a conversational quality while maintaining its sensual atmosphere.

For Rhita Nattah, representing Morocco internationally does not mean freezing its culture in place. She wants listeners outside North Africa to encounter a version of the culture that remains connected to its roots while embracing evolution.

But her ambitions extend beyond introducing audiences to Moroccan sounds. She also wants her journey to encourage other artists to resist the pressure to reproduce whatever is already successful.
In an industry increasingly shaped by trends, algorithms and familiar formulas, Nattah believes individuality remains one of an artist’s greatest strengths.

Her message is particularly relevant to independent musicians who may feel pressured to change themselves to gain attention. For Nattah, the harder path of creating from instinct and personal experience can ultimately produce something more enduring.

She describes her artistic journey as unconventional, but says she has never abandoned her values simply to fit into an existing mould.

For Nattah, representing Morocco internationally does not mean freezing its culture in place. She wants listeners outside North Africa to encounter a version of the culture that remains connected to its roots while embracing evolution.

For Lahasna, music has never been confined to a microphone, a studio, or a single genre. Long before she became a singer, songwriter, producer, DJ, and performer, she was simply fascinated by sound itself, anything capable of creating a frequency.

That childhood curiosity has grown into what she now describes as a “360 music curator”: an artist interested not only in making music, but in giving sound a physical and emotional world to inhabit.

“I’ve always loved the idea of giving music a ‘physical home,’” Lahasna says, explaining how her creative identity has evolved over the years.

Ayra Starr has spent the past few years growing into one of Afrobeats’ most recognisable young voices. On Starrgirl, her third album, the Beninese-Nigerian sounds less interested in proving that she belongs in the room and more comfortable deciding what the room should sound like.

At 16 tracks, the album gives Ayra enough room to be playful, romantic, ambitious, sensual and vulnerable. And perhaps that is the point of Starrgirl: she isn’t trying to fit into one version of herself anymore.

Johannesburg-based Afrobeat artist Payseen is entering a new chapter with “Loyal,” a warm and heartfelt single that explores the strength of love through changing seasons, distance and life’s uncertainties.

Musically, “Loyal” carries the warmth of Afrobeat through rhythmic percussion, smooth melodies and an easy-flowing arrangement. Its atmosphere mirrors the transition between summer and autumn, using the brightness and energy associated with warmer days before gradually settling into something softer and more reflective. That contrast gives the record an emotional quality without taking away from its feel-good appeal.

The EP’s sonic identity reflects Agyakomah’s wide-ranging musical influences. Her work brings together contemporary R&B, neo-soul, jazz and Afro-fusion while retaining accessible pop instincts. Her approach to vocals is particularly distinctive, using harmonies, ad-libs and layered textures almost as additional instruments.

But Lipstick at the Scene of a Crime is not only about the music. Agyakomah has built an artistic universe around the project, drawing inspiration from murder-mystery films, New York City’s burlesque culture and the character-driven storytelling of professional wrestling. Her time at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), where she completed a summer conservatory program, further contributed to the performance-driven vision behind the project.

That theatrical influence gives the EP a sense of movement and personality. Agyakomah is not simply singing about relationships; she is creating characters, situations and emotional scenes that allow listeners to enter her world.

After 15 years, the bigger statement is that he can still make a concise, accessible and emotionally grounded Afrobeats album without losing the qualities that made him a superstar in the first place.

Oriadé is therefore best understood not as Davido chasing the next chapter, but as taking stock of the chapter he has already written.

The crown is no longer something he is reaching for.

He is learning how to wear it.
