1: Ghana Telecom: Perhaps the most significant divestiture, 70% of Ghana Telecom was sold to Vodafone in 2008 for $900 million.
2: Airport Residential Area Property: This became one of the administration’s most talked-about “property scandals.” A multi-million-dollar hotel building located near the President’s private residence was reportedly purchased by his son, Chief John Addo Kufuor.
3: Government Bungalows and Lands: Properties in Ridge, Cantonments, and East Legon were reportedly sold to government officials and private individuals. Former NPP Chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey famously attempted to purchase the state bungalow he occupied.
4: West Africa Mills Company: Part of the state’s stake in WAMCO, a cocoa processing company in Takoradi, was divested during this period.
5: Ghana Airways Assets: Various assets belonging to the national carrier including aircraft parts, land, and office buildings were auctioned or sold to offset the company’s massive debts.
