covers several distinct but mutually relatable bodies of work, showcasing diverse artistic processes, techniques, and decisions that the artist, with her small team of young collaborators, has been making and working on for quite a while now.
The exhibition takes place across three venues in Accra:
- FCA-Ghana, Cantonments
- Dei Centre Ghana, Tesano
- FCA-Ghana Studio 1, Jamestown Café, Jamestown.
The impetus for these bodies of work revolves around critical issues surrounding the environment and familial bonds. By laboriously sourcing, cutting, gluing, stitching, weaving, suturing and binding fabric offcuts, discarded lottery forecasting paper and a host of reclaimed and repurposed materials from our collective day-to-day experiences, Bewong conjures up magical spaces, mysterious objects and captivating propositions that open up our imaginations, taking us on journeys full of curiosity and intrigue.
‘𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗴 - 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝘀’ engages a pivotal moment in the artist’s career and seeks to extend the reach of her work even further beyond the exhibitionary moment. A series of accompanying projects and programming would be rolled out, with the aim of affording the artist and her audience profound moments of exchange and discursive engagement that would eventually culminate in a book project.
The entire public is cordially invited.
