Coming on standing order 67(1)(u) & 31, Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka-Mubarak, has cited the minority leader for contempt on allegations made by Mr. Afenyo-Markin regarding recruitment exercises into the country's internal security services by a third party.

The Minister in presenting a statement to support his call said the minority leader made falsified claims aimed at derailing a fair process. According to Mr. Muntaka, the current system which is online based doesn't impose a financial burden on applicants.

Before an applicant can access the online portal, they must purchase a one-time e-voucher & complete application on the portal. Mr. Muntaka (MP, Asawase) therefore called on speaker to refer Mr. Afenyo-Markin to privileges c'ttee where facts would be interrogated.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin (MP, Effutu) in a response, implored the chair to discuss the matter in conclave but that was met with an uproar by the majority. He then retreated and called for a public hearing of the c'ttee on privileges and immunities.

Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on his part said the privileges committee will uncover the truth of the matter. The first deputy speaker has accordingly referred the Minister's complaint to the Committee on Privileges and Immunities.

On Wednesday, May 03, Hardi Pagazaa and Mumuni Osman entered the studios of the

presenting his show at the studios of the radio station.

We (GJA) supported Mr Gariba to report the case to the Police. We also assigned our
Counsel; Lawyer Awudu Issah Mahmudu of Yelinzo Chambers to support Mr Gariba as
well as work with the Police to prosecute the case.

Following the successful prosecution of the case, we wish to express our satisfaction with
the conviction and sentencing of the two accused persons even though we would have
preferred a much stiffer punishment. All the same, we appreciate this as it will serve as a
deterrent to others.

We wish to express our appreciation to the Police for their swift investigations into this
case and successfully prosecuting the case. We also wish to thank our Counsel; Mr
Mahmudu for his support and the brilliant job on the case.

We appreciate the effort of the Inspector-General of Police for showing much interest in this case, and the National Leadership of the GJA for their support throughout the prosecution of this case.

We need the intervention of the Police and the Courts to stop the unwarranted attacks or
assault on Journalists in the line of their work.
We wish to assure all journalists in the region that the GJA is solidly behind them in the
performance of their duties, and will always go to any lengths to defend them.
We, once again, urge the public to resort to appropriate procedures to seek remedy
regarding media publications concerning them.

Help us secure $3bn IMF deal – Akufo-Addo 'begs' Japan’s PM

Did you know that three new taxes were implemented yesterday, May 1, 2023?

The three new taxes are the Excise Amendment Act, 2023; Income Tax Amendment Act, 2023; and the Growth and Sustainability Levy Act, 2023.

Already, the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has asked consumers to brace themselves for an increase in the prices of goods and services.

In an interview with Accra based Citi News, the President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, Dr. Joseph Obeng indicated that his members have no other option than to pass on the effect of the taxes to consumers.

“This is going to trickle down on the cost of doing business. This will trickle down to consumers and that may not augur well for all of us. When somebody is going to pay 5 percent on his gross and when somebody is paying 2.5 percent on his gross, it will not be absorbed by the business entity itself, it will be passed on to the consumer.” he explained.
