Trump administration 'woke Europe up' from slumber, US ambassador tells Euronews. The Trump administration has helped Europeans stop hitting the snooze button and "wake up," US Ambassador to the EU Andrew Puzder said, hailing Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s call for greater alignment between the two in his speech at the Munich Security Conference as “positive” for the trans-Atlantic alliance.

It is a “hallmark of a great diplomat” to be able to say the things people "need to hear and may not want to hear," Puzder told Euronews' flagship morning show Europe Today on Wednesday.

Rubio's speech comes a year after US Vice President JD Vance appeared on stage at the same conference and delivered what was seen as a hostile and unfriendly message to European allies.

This time, said Puzder, the European audience "was very open" and Rubio "got a standing ovation".

Puzder also hailed European “progress” in aligning its approach to migration policy with the US. "I actually think the EU’s position on immigration has come a great distance towards the American position," said the ambassador.

He pointed to what he thinks is one of Europe's key issues: the impact of mass immigration. According to Puzder, "they have different values, not right or wrong, but they are different from ours.”

“There's a difference between managed and mass migration. What we’ve seen over the past decade is just flows of people coming onto the continent, and the reaction has not been positive", said the ambassador.

When asked about numbers showing that migrant arrivals in the EU have declined compared with previous years, Puzder argued that Rubio "was talking about the impact of the past mass migration and the civilisational challenge that poses".

According to the US ambassador, "the impact of climate policies on the economy and on GDP per capita" is also one of the issues the continent may face.

Rubio's visit to Munich was not his only stop in Europe. The US top diplomat also visited Slovakia and Hungary, home to two of the closest Trump allies in the EU.

His visit to Premier Viktor Orbán, who is facing elections in April, sparked concerns over a possible US interference. Puzder disagreed. “I think he has every right to visit Budapest. Hungary is an ally of the US, it’s a member of the European Union", said the ambassador.

Wodemaya Slams Zambians for Describing President Mahama’s Fugu as a ‘Blouse’.

Popular Ghanaian content creator and YouTuber, Wodemaya, has criticised comments made by some Zambian social media users who described President John Dramani Mahama’s traditional attire as a “blouse” during his official visit to Zambia.

President Mahama is currently on a three-day state visit to Zambia, where he is holding high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. However, discussions on social media have shifted from the diplomatic mission to the president’s outfit.

During the visit, President Mahama was seen wearing a fugu, a traditional handwoven smock that originates from northern Ghana and holds deep cultural and historical significance. The attire is widely regarded as a symbol of identity, pride, and heritage among many Ghanaian communities.

While several social media users praised the president for promoting Ghanaian culture on an international platform, some Zambians reportedly referred to the traditional smock as a “blouse,” triggering backlash from Ghanaians online.

The comments were widely criticised as disrespectful and culturally insensitive, prompting reactions from prominent personalities, including Wodemaya.

Reacting to the remarks in a Facebook post, the YouTuber expressed frustration and disappointment, describing the comments as offensive.

“Just woke up reading disgusting comments from Zambians calling Fugu blouse? I keep typing and deleting. I’m really trying so hard to be diplomatic in my address but extremely difficult,” he wrote.

Wodemaya’s response has since reignited conversations about cultural respect, African identity, and the need for greater understanding of traditional attire across the continent.

Do you recall Sophia Amelia, the devoted fan who traveled from the United States to Morocco during AFCON, seeking a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with her football hero, Sadio Mané?
When the moment finally arrived, emotions ran high. However, Sadio Mané, adhering to his values and principles, politely declined to hug her due to her attire at the time. This incident sparked a conversation across the football world — not out of disrespect, but rather out of discipline, boundaries, and self-respect.
Fast-forward to today, and the story takes a beautiful turn. Sophia has now flown to Saudi Arabia, officially invited by Sadio Mané and his wife to the Al Nassr headquarters. This was not a coincidence — it was a deliberate, thoughtful decision by a wise and principled individual who understands respect, culture, and dignity.
This time, Sophia presented herself with grace and respect, honoring the environment, culture, and values that Sadio Mané upholds. And in that moment — with his wife present, smiling and clearly happy — she finally received the hug she had dreamed of. No controversy. No disrespect. Just mutual understanding, growth, and class on all sides.
Congratulations are in order for Sophia — her dream truly came full circle. And respect is due to Sadio Mané, a man who proves that one can be kind, successful, and loving without compromising one's principles.

This respect and he is showcasing true culture to the world.

US must be prudent when supplying arms to Taiwan, Xi tells Trump

China's leader Xi Jinping has called Taiwan "the most important issue" in China-US relations during a phone call with US President Donald Trump.

Xi told Trump to be "prudent" when supplying weapons to the island, state media report, adding that he attached "great importance" to ties with Washington and hoped both sides would find ways to resolve their differences.

Trump cast Wednesday's call as "excellent" and "long and thorough".

The call followed a flurry of visits by Western leaders, including the UK's Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, to China in recent months, hoping to reset relations with the world's second-largest economy.

Trump himself is due to visit China in April, a trip he said he "very much" looked forward to.

He added that Beijing was considering buying 20 million tonnes of US soybeans, up from the current 12 million tonnes.

"The relationship with China, and my personal relationship with President Xi, is an extremely good one, and we both realize how important it is to keep it that way," he wrote in a Truth Social post.

Apart from Taiwan and soybeans, Trump and Xi discussed Russia's war in Ukraine, the current situation in Iran, and China's purchase of oil and gas from the US, the US president wrote.

On Taiwan, Xi said the self-governed island was "China's territory" and that Beijing "must safeguard [Taiwan's] sovereignty and territorial integrity".

"The United States must handle the issue of arms sales to Taiwan with prudence," he warned.

China has long vowed to "reunify" with Taiwan and has not ruled out the use of force to do so.

The US has formal ties with Beijing rather than Taiwan, and has walked a tight diplomatic rope for decades. But it remains a powerful ally of Taiwan and is the island's biggest arms supplier.

In December, the Trump administration announced a huge arms sale worth around $11bn (£8.2bn) to Taiwan, which included advanced rocket launchers, self-propelled howitzers and a variety of missiles.

Beijing said at the time that this "attempt to support [Taiwan's] independence" would only "accelerate the push towards a dangerous and violent situation across the Taiwan Strait".

"Just as the United States has its concerns, China for its part also has concerns," Xi told Trump on Wednesday.

"If the two sides work in the same direction in the spirit of equality, respect and mutual benefit, we can surely find ways to address each other's concerns."

On Thursday, Taiwan's leader Lai Ching-te told reporters relations with the US remained "rock solid" and that "all ongoing cooperation projects are continuing".

IT is allegd that,
Ghanaian President John Mahama has been ranked fifth on the 2026 Devex Power 50 list — a global ranking of people influencing how development money is raised and spent. The list reflects major changes in global development, as traditional aid declines and countries seek new ways to finance growth. Devex highlighted Mahama’s push for the “Accra Reset,” a strategy his government says is about securing development funding without surrendering national control — a message that resonates with many African countries navigating debt, aid cuts and economic pressure.

The 2026 Grammy Awards were held Sunday night — here's what to know:
Kendrick Lamar had the most nominations with nine, and took home Grammys for Record of the Year, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Melodic Rap Performance. "GNX" was Lamar's fifth consecutive studio album to be nominated for Album of the Year, making Lamar the first artist to ever achieve that feat, according to Variety.
Bad Bunny took home the Grammy for Album of the Year for "DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS" — a week before he's set to headline the Super Bowl halftime show.
Comedian and former "The Daily Show" host Trevor Noah was back to host the Grammys for a sixth consecutive year. Noah was also nominated for Best Audio Book for his book "Into the Uncut Grass," although he lost out to the Dalai Lama.
Famed director Steven Spielberg achieved EGOT status — winning at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony — when he secured the Grammy for Best Music Film for his role in producing "Music By John Williams."
This year saw a whopping 95 awards handed out, although the vast majority of those were announced prior to the main ceremony.
The 68th annual Grammy Awards were held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and were broadcast live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
