READ: 1 Samuel 25:2-17

Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they be?

1 Samuel 25:11

When God blesses you and gives you great increase you are expected to remember the house of God. Your wealth is supposed to produce wealth for the kingdom of God. Become a source of wealth for the church by remembering the Lord when you are blessed. Nabal is the best example of someone who did not remember the Lord when he experienced prosperity. When you do not remember God’s house in your day of prosperity, you are good for nothing.

Be the salt of the earth by being a source of wealth for the kingdom of God. Become a source of wealth for the church by giving special offerings.

Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house.

1 Chronicles 29:3

Be the salt of the earth by being a source of wealth for the kingdom of God. Become a source of wealth for the church by helping when there is a need.

I have received my full pay and have more than enough. I have everything I need. That’s because Epaphroditus brought me the gifts you sent. They are a sweet-smelling offering. They are a gift that God accepts. He is pleased with it. My God will meet all your needs. He will meet them in keeping with his wonderful riches. These riches come to you because you belong to Christ Jesus.

*1 Samuel 25:2-17 KJV*
2 And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.
3 Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.
4 And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal did shear his sheep.
5 And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name:
6 And thus shall ye say to him that liveth in prosperity, Peace be both to thee, and peace be to thine house, and peace be unto all that thou hast.
7 And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in Carmel.
8 Ask thy young men, and they will shew thee. Wherefore let the young men find favour in thine eyes: for we come in a good day: give, I pray thee, whatsoever cometh to thine hand unto thy servants, and to thy son David.
9 And when David's young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased.
10 And Nabal answered David's servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master.
11 Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they be?
12 So David's young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all those sayings.
13 And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.
14 But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal's wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed on them.
15 But the men were very good unto us, and we were not hurt, neither missed we any thing, as long as we were conversant with them, when we were in the fields:
16 They were a wall unto us both by night and day, all the while we were with them keeping the sheep.
17 Now therefore know and consider what thou wilt do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.

*DON’T BE OFFENDED*
21st June, 2025

READ: Mark 14:13-31

And Jesus saith unto them, all ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

Mark 14:27

Whenever God’s servants are attacked, there is a scattering and an offending of the sheep that takes place. It is important to overcome offences that occur in your life because of attacks on God’s precious servants. Jesus predicted that people would be offended because of what would happen to Him. If He were really such a good person, why would such things happen to Him?

Jesus exited the city of Jerusalem on a cross. He was whipped and beaten like a scoundrel and a villain. Few people cared to know the real truth. No one really was ready to stand up to face the authorities and prevent the injustice from being meted out to Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world.

Whenever there is trouble in a leader’s life, many people do not understand exactly what is happening. Some think he is guilty and some are confused. Many do not really care about what is happening.

For those who are real sticklers for righteousness, a leader’s troubles can tip them away and make them turn against their own leader. At different stages of the ministry, I have had conflicts with different people and experienced crises after crises. Each time, I noticed the hearts of the people had these three responses - some were confused, others believed the stories, and others did not believe any bad thing about me.

You will be surprised about how far from the truth the stories out there are. You will be amazed about the variant rumours that spread from talebearer to talebearer. Those who love you will never believe bad things about you. Do not be offended because a man of God you love and admire is under fire. It is normal and expected for God’s servants to go through fiery trials and temptations.

QUESTION: I was reading the story of David and Goliath. At which point was Goliath killed? When he was hit by the stone or when he was struck by his sword?

ANSWER: Thank you, my dear friend, for this very interesting question! From the account in 1 Samuel 17, I cannot tell for sure whether Goliath was actually killed, or just knocked down by the stone after which David was able to “finish him off” by removing his head. You’ll notice that the word “slew” is used in both 1 Samuel 17, verses 50 and 51 in the KJV (note, the word “killed” is used in the JND). Quoting the KJV, we have in 1 Samuel 17:50-51: “So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith….” Both of these verses talk about slaying the giant, but the JND version makes a distinction in verse 51 which causes me to lean towards the thought that Goliath was only incapacitated by the stone so that the giant could no longer defend himself, and thus David was afterwards able to slay Goliath with the giant’s own sword while Goliath lay helpless on the ground. According to the J. N. Darby version of the Bible, verse 51 reads as follows: “And David ran, and stood upon the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of its sheath, and killed him completely, and cut off his head with it….” Now, in the MacDonald Bible Commentary on this section of 1 Samuel 17 we read: “…The giant fell forward on his face. David then used the Philistine's own sword to kill him and cut off his head.” Clearly, MacDonald believes it was the sword that spelled Goliath’s end, and holding up the severed head was a clear sign to the Philistine host that their champion was indeed dead.

But now, my dear friend, what I feel is a very important lesson that we can observe from this account is that the enemies of God cannot defy God with impunity. The faithful, though we may appear to the world to be weak, can rely on the fact that God will ultimately overcome the wicked by His surpassing power, to the glory of God (see 1 Samuel 14:6-7). In the Scriptural account which you have been reading, I love to focus on 1 Samuel 17:45-46: “…Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” So much for those who scorn Christianity and who defy the God of the universe today!

And, oh for this kind of faith among the family of God in these trying days! Come what may in this earth, we who are true believers on the Lord Jesus Christ have nothing to fear, despite what we might hear on the 6 PM news. Born again Christians are heaven-bound! For sure, a day is coming upon this sin-sick world, and I believe very soon now, the Lord Jesus Himself will return to the air to take His loved ones home to be with Himself forever (John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). Then not long after that (the rapture of the Church), He will come back to judge the wicked of this earth and to put down all the enemies of Christ (Acts 17:30-31; Malachi 3; Zechariah 14). Judgment is indeed coming upon this earth, and to all who may read this document I say, “…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation, (2 Corinthians 6:2). For those who have trusted in Christ Jesus as their Savior and Lord, there will be no condemnation (John 5:24; Romans 8:1). Therefore, for any who have not as yet trusted in Christ Jesus, I pray you, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved, even today as you consider this response (Acts 16:31; John 3:16; Romans 10:9). May the Lord bless His Word to your heart.

God Loves and Cares For Us

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.

1 John 4:7-8 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Job 34:19 who shows no partiality to princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor, for they are all the work of his hands?

Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

1 John 3:1 See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

1 John 4:16

God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
